Chapter 1598

    ?Chapter 1598:

The person who had tried to kill her father was still out there, and the uncertainty gnawed at her constantly.

The sooner she dragged that shadowed figure into the light, the sooner she could breathe freely again.

“I’m suddenly thinking of expanding into Lionesspaw’s market,” Dn murmured with a faint chuckle.

Christina let out a softugh of her own and set the book aside. She turned toward him, cupped his face in both hands, and brushed her lips lightly against his.

“Be good. Stay here and look after Bethel for me,” she whispered, tilting her head just a little, her eyes warm and pleading. “Okay?”

Dn’s heart melted instantly. Every time she did that—tilting her head, eyes wide with that irresistible charm—he found himself helpless.

Instead of answering, he pressed his lips together and just looked at her.

When he stayed silent, Christina tugged yfully at his arm and whined, “Please?”

After a few more gentle shakes, Dn finally gave in with a sigh of defeat.

“Okay,” he relented, tapping the side of his cheek with a teasing smile. “But I expect a reward.”

Christina smiled brightly and pressed a kiss to his cheek before leaning in to capture his lips.

They kissed deeply, lost in each other’s arms, only breaking apart when the need for air finally forced them to.

Still not satisfied, she gave his lips one more quick, affectionate peck.

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she smiled brightly and said with quiet sincerity, “Dn, I love you.”

“I love you too, Chrissie,” Dn murmured, pulling her close and burying his face in the curve of her neck. He breathed in her familiar, soothing scent.

Everything about her—the way she smiled, the sound of her voice, even her fragrance—calmed every storm in him, filling his heart with peace and strength.

But the thought of her leaving soon stirred a reluctant ache inside him. His arms tightened instinctively around her.

Leaning closer, his voice dropped to a husky whisper. “Chrissie.”

His low, velvety voice curled through the air, sending a shiver of heat racing down her spine.

“Yeah?” she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Chrissie…” he murmured again, gentle, yful, and dripping with affection. His lips brushed lightly past her ear, and a tremor ran through her before she could stop it. Warmth rippled through her body like a slow wave.

“I’m here,” she breathed, her voice catching.

“Chrissie… I really don’t want you to go,” he said, his words edged with a teasing plea that made her knees feel weak.

“I don’t want to leave you either,” Christina admitted, tightening her hold around him. “But I have to. Be good and wait for me toe back.”

Dn released a quiet sigh, his voice softening into reluctant eptance. “Alright.”

“Here, these are energy tablets. Keep them with you. If anything feels off, just let one dissolve in your mouth.” Christina retrieved a small blister pack of tablets she had crafted herself. They did more than sharpen the mind—they could also counteract certain toxins.
