?Chapter 1498:
While he and the Scott family remained strong, she would be safe. But what if one day they fell? What if nothing remained to shield her?
Dn wanted Chloe to survive and thrive on her own, to be unshakable even without anyone holding her hand.
Truthfully, he should have started preparing her long ago, but her fragile health had forced him to shield her relentlessly, to wrap her in his protection and guard her from every storm.
After nearly dying, with no idea who had tried to kill him, he realized he had to prepare for every possible threat—especially one that could hurt Chloe.
Every time Dn imagined something going wrong, all he could see was Christina’s devastated expression—a look of pure heartbreak that haunted him.
Without thinking, he pulled her closer, resting his chin softly on top of her head as if needing to feel her breathing.
“Chrissie…” Dn’s voice was low and warm, thick with unspoken emotion.
Christina let out a quiet hum, soothed by the deep, steady rhythm of his voice against her ear.
He didn’t speak for a while. The silence between them wasn’t empty—it was heavy, intimate, as if the air itself held its breath. Sensing the change in him, Christina tilted her head up and gently cupped his face. “What’s going on? You just went all quiet on me.”
Dn gave a softugh, covering her hand with his. His eyes were warm, but a shadow of fear lingered behind them. “If… if something ever happened to me,” he began, his voice low, “I need you to take care of yourself. Don’t drown in grief. Don’t lose yourself. I—”
Before he could finish, Christina pressed a finger to his lips, cutting him off. “Don’t talk like that,” she said, her tone edged with both annoyance and fear. She didn’t want to hear those words.
That pouty, stubborn look on her face made Dn smile despite himself. God, he loved her. His Christina—fierce, tender, impossible not to adore.
“Alright, I’ll drop it,” he said, locking eyes with her. “But you have to promise me.”

“I promise,” she replied, firm and sure. “But nothing’s going to happen to you. Not on my watch.”
“Okay,” Dn said with a soft smile. “I’m just saying, if—”
Christina silenced him with a kiss, refusing to let him finish that sentence.
Their kiss deepened, breathless and intense, until Christina finally pulled back, chest rising and falling.
“No ‘ifs.’ No ‘maybes.’ No ‘what-ifs,''” she said, her voice fierce. “We’re growing old together. In this life, the next, and the one after that. You’re stuck with me, Dn. Forever.”
Dnughed, and it wasn’t just a sound—it was warmth, like honey melting slowly through his chest.
“That’s my Chrissie,” he said, his voice full of love and pride.
Christina stretched her arms toward him, her tone soft and teasing. “Carry me down, will you?”
“Sure,” Dn murmured, a yful glint in his eyes as he lifted her effortlessly from the desk.
Later, Dn settled into his work at the study desk, papers spread before him. Christina sat quietly beside him, her book open.
