    Christina was rxing at home when her phone rang. It was Scarface calling.


    “Boss! Someone’s offering a billion to hire you for a hit on a business tycoon in Lionesspaw.”


    Christina’s eyebrows went up when she heard that. A small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. “A billion? If they were paying that much, it wouldn’t be an easy job.”


    “Of course it won’t be!” Scarface said, his excitement clear. “The target is Hurley Jones. He controls a huge chunk of Lionesspaw’s economy, and he’s incredibly rich.”


    Christina let out a smallugh. “Only a billion for someone that important? Seems a bit cheap, doesn’t it?”


    “You’re right about that,” Scarface agreed.


    Whatever Christina said, Scarface thought she was right. He trusted her judgmentpletely.


    Scarface added in a joking tone, “Boss, this Hurley guy has thest name Jones, too. Any chance he’s rted to you?”


    Christina replied automatically, “There are lots of Joneses. That doesn’t mean much.”


    But the mention of family made something shift inside her. She realized she should probably start looking for her own family instead of waiting around. Maybe her family hadn’t abandoned her after all. Maybe they’d had reasons for giving her up that they couldn’t talk about.


    “Now that you mention it, Florrie Jones is supposed to be in Apresh, over in Jasgow. Apparently, they’re rted to the Vaughn family, you know, the richest family in that city,” Scarface said.


    Christina frowned. She was surprised to hear that Florrie was living in Jasgow.


    Dn had traveled to Jasgow not long ago to work out a business deal with the Vaughn family.


    “Look into this Hurley Jones for me,” Christina said calmly. “Dig up everything you can find on him and send me all the information.”

    “Yes, Boss!” Scarface responded. He hung up the phone and immediately got to work gathering information on Hurley.


    Christina had a rule. She never hurt innocent people. If Hurley didn’t meet her standards for someone who deserved to be assassinated, she wouldn’t take the job.


    After she put down her phone, Christina chose a striped top and ck pants to wear. She wanted somethingfortable and simple.


    She was nning to go to Morfort Restaurant soon because Magnus had insisted on having a meal with her.


    After she showered and dried her hair, she checked the time.


    If she left right now and the traffic wasn’t bad, she’d get to Morfort Restaurant early. If traffic was heavy, she’d arrive right on time for their meeting.
