Chapter 1083

    ?Chapter 1083:

“I need to go see Davina tomorrow. She’s entering a swimmingpetition, and she asked me to go with her. I’ll be staying there for about a week,” Christina said casually, weaving the lie with ease.

In truth, she was leaving because Lauretta’s father was scheduled for surgery in three days. A swimmingpetition in one of the nearby cities was the only excuse that made sense for her week-long absence. She needed the time to leave early, stay through the surgery, and returnte—without arousing suspicion. But Dn had been clinging to her so closely that slipping away unnoticed was bing nearly impossible.

“You’re leaving for so long?” Chloe looked at Christina, her voice heavy with reluctance.

“Yes. Take good care of your brother, and don’t let him step outside,” Christina instructed firmly.

“I understand.” Chloe nodded with seriousness. They still didn’t know who was after her brother’s life, but the threat lingered as the enemy still lurked in the shadows, having ruthlessly used a sniper rifle before. So they stayed inside, the curtains always drawn for safety, shielding Dn from another possible strike.

“Chrissie, don’t go.” Dn clutched Christina’s arms, his face darkened with displeasure.

“Ha-ha… Let me record a video of him. When he recovers and returns to his normal self, I’ll use it to tease him.” Robinughed, pulling out his phone.

Dn’s eyes glinted with a sharp chill. He wanted nothing more than to kick this noisy nuisance out. Robin was unbearable. Even kindergarten children behaved with more sense than he did.

“Don’t even think about it!” Chloe snapped, snatching the phone straight from Robin’s hand.

Dn’s lips curled in the faintest smile, quietly apuding his sister’s quick reaction. Good girl.

“You little brat! Give me back my phone!” Robin shouted in frustration.

But Chloe had already darted away, turning back to stick her tongue out at him.

    “Catch me if you can!”

“You’re going to regret this!” Robin chased after her like a whirlwind.

Watching the two of them, Christina couldn’t hold back a smile, though her eyes flickered with a trace of envy. A person who could stay that carefree and innocent must have been shielded well by their family.

Her gaze dropped slightly, her smile lingering but tinged with bitterness. The Jones family had been cruel to her, but their devotion to Yvonne had been unquestionable.

Christina hadn’t destroyed the Jones family outright—partly because of the brief kindness they once showed her, and partly because their love for Yvonne had been genuine. If they had stayed out of her path, they would never have lost the Jones Group. But instead, they…

…kept provoking her again and again. Rather than enjoying theirfortable life, they had tempted fate—and this was where it brought them.

“Chrissie.” Dn clung to Christina’s arm, resting his chin on her shoulder, his eyes fixed on her profile. “What are you thinking about?” he asked, his tone innocent, his curiosity pure.
