    Once spoken, the truth became easier to repeat. Lauretta steadied her voice and said, “I have a son. He won’t interfere with our agreement, but just now, I was informed that he’s been kidnapped—and I can’t go through with the wedding while he’s still in danger.”


    After she spoke, it felt like a heavy burden slid off her shoulders. She knew she and Dominic were never meant tost. They would go their separate ways amicably once he found the woman he truly wanted. The fault was hers—she had let her heart slip, allowing feelings for him to grow in secret.

    Dominic had barely registered the shock of her having a son when the word “kidnapped” hit him like a blow. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner? The child’s rescuees first!” he snapped. His frown deepened as he gripped her hand. “What did the kidnappers demand? Have you involved the police?”


    Lauretta shook her head quickly. “No. They threatened to kill him if I did. I n to pay the ransom, just to buy time.”


    “Do you know where they’re holding him?” Dominic pressed.


    “Yes. I’ve already sent someone to bring him back.” Lauretta nodded firmly.


    “That’s good—but how did you learn their location?” Dominic exhaled in relief, though curiosity edged into his tone.


    Lauretta’s hand clutched tighter at his arm. “This isn’t the time for questions. I have to save him now.” She had noticed Christina’s reluctance to reveal too much, so she had no intention of exining further.


    “I’lle with you. But first, we need confirmation of their exact location. Otherwise, we risk wasting time—or worse, tipping them off,” Dominic said, his tone calm yet resolute.
