    Third Person’s POV

Lycan Erasmus figured the ckthorn Pack had some inside info, Once Adide started the investigation, she’d use that info to make progress.

Basically, Lycan Erasmus wanted to use the ckthorn Pack but didn’t trust Lance, hence this n.

Hopefully, after they root out the rebels, Lycan Erasmus won’t turn on them.

After leaving the pce, Lance headed back to the ckthorn Pack and briefed Caldwell, who was just settling in. Lance told him Lycan Erasmus wanted Adide to take over the Ironthorn Legion.

    Caldwell’s drowsiness vanished.

He’d nned to ask Adide to help him see his sister once she woke up.

But now, with Lycan Erasmus’s sudden move, he had to rack his brain to figure out the motive.

Sleep was out of the question.

When Adide got up, dressed, and came out, Caldwell immediately reported, “Alpha Lance came back earlier. He said Lycan Erasmus is promoting you to Ironthorn Legionmander, giving you control over the Capital Guard, Royal Patrol, Lycan King’s personal wolf guard, and the patrol teams. I’m still trying to unpack why Lycan Erasmus is doing this.”

Adide was skeptical. “Is this a real position of power?”

“Yes, it’s a real role,” Caldwell confirmed.

Adide was stunned. “Our kingdom’s never had a she–wolf in an official royal position. Even when Velda earned her battle honors, she was just ced in the guard. And my deputymander title was purely honorary–just for the sry.”

She–wolves could fight in wars, but being a royal official was different. <fneead> Follow current nov?ls on f?i?n?d?n?o?v?e?l?</fneead>

Adide found it odd but would ept the role if the appointment came through.

She mused that she–wolves held little status in the royal family, which rissa oftenmented.

When Velda became a she–wolf general, rissa had praised her joyfully.

Adide told Caldwell, “Lance’spromises and patience haven’t gone unnoticed by Lycan Erasmus. But Lycan Erasmus also knows Lance’s loyalty doesn’t require such sacrifices.”

Caldwell sighed. “Lycan Erasmus is distrustful by nature. Alpha Lance backs down to preserve royal unity. Lycan Erasmus wants to use Lance but fears him, leading to this conflicting situation. It all boils down to ack of trust.”

Adide added, “Our continual concessions only provide temporary reassurance to Lycan Erasmus. They don’t resolve the core issue. Since that’s the case, I believe we should proceed with what needs to be done. Suspicions and fears can’t be avoided.”

Caldwell’s eyes lit up. “You feel the same way, Luna Adide?”

“Hasn’t Lance mentioned simr thoughts to you before?” Adide asked.

“Alpha Lance once told me the same. He said with only Cedric to inherit the Frostfang Pack, it’s crucial to protect him. So sometimes, it’s better to avoid trouble. And…”

Caldwell hesitated but then continued, “Alpha Lance also worries you don’t want to get entangled in the royal family’s suspicions. He hopes you can live peacefully. He thinks you’ve been through too much and deserves a calm life.”

    Adide was touched.

She hadn’t realized Lance’s considerations included her and Cedric. She always thought he only wanted to maintain brotherly ties with Lycan Erasmus or avoid arousing his suspicions.

Warmth welled up inside her–this was the feeling of being truly valued.

Previously, she thought the ckthorn Pack seemed “cowardly,” always second–guessing Lycan Erasmus’s suspicions before acting.

Moreover, as Luna Adide, she had to mind her every word and deed to match her status, gradually forgetting her true self.

When she said she felt like her past was a distant memory, wasn’t the time in the Shadow Peaks the same?

That free–spirited Adide from the Shadow Peaks, riding in vibrant clothes and living unrestrained–it was as if she had “died” in the past.

Rather than living cautiously, she might as well act boldly.

Life’s too short to be anything but true to oneself.
