That''s why she was determined to uncover whoever was behind all this-she wouldn''t feel at ease until she did.
When Finnian said he''d help her investigate, Amara just pressed her lips together in silence.
He was always like this. Whenever she was in danger, Finnian was the first to step in and protect her, fort her once things had calmed down, and do the digging to find out the truth—always bringing her results that put her mind at ease.
He had been this way even before they had an official rtionship; and now that he knew the child she was carrying was his, their bond had only deepened, so it just seemed even more natural for him to do all this.
Still, Amara couldn''t help but feel a bit uneasy. And yet, alongside that difort, there was a sense of safety around Finnian that was impossible to ignore. It left her torn in a way she could hardly put into words...
She thought, even though she still refused to be with Finnian—and probably never would she couldn''t deny that her feelings toward him were getting more and moreplicated.
Knock, knock, knock!
"Ama, are you okay?"
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Before Amara could answer and invite her in, Elysia burst in, her voice anxious.
The first thing Elysia saw was Finnian sitting on the edge of the hospital bed, holding Amara close in his arms.
They looked so close, so natural together, that Elysia stopped in her tracks, the words she''d meant to say sticking in her throat.
"Let me go, right now!"
Seeing Elysia there, Amara immediately tried to push Finnian away, signaling with her eyes that he shouldn''t be so affectionate in front of her best friend.
Finnian was very reluctant to let her go, but knowing how uneasy Amara would be, he didn''t want to make it harder for her; he gently let her go.
He pulled out a chair and took a seat to the side, leaving space for Elysia so the two friends could talk.
Elysia appreciated Finnian''s thoughtfulness and quickly took the seat he''d just vacated, grasping Amara''s hand. "What happened? Did you get contractions all of a sudden while you were out? You texted mer but didn''t say what was going on- was so worried!"
Since Amara became pregnant, Elysia had made a point of reading up on pregnancy, so she knew contractions could be nothing or something very serious.
If things weren''t too bad, there was nothing to worry about, but severe contractions could even cause a miscarriage, so Elysia had been extremely anxious.
Amara said, “I''m fine now. The doctor gave me some medicine to stabilize my pregnancy, had me rest for a while-right now, both the baby and I are healthy."
"But why did you suddenly have contractions? There must be a reason." Elysia said.
She shot a slightly suspicious nce at Finnian, then asked, "Did someone upset you?"
The "someone" in question had just been quietly watching the two of them. At this he immediately sat up straighter, defending himself: It wasn''t me. I didn''t do anything to upset Amara."
Amara couldn''t help but feel a little exasperated at how quickly he jumped to defend himself. “It has nothing to do with him," she said. “Here''s what really happened.....”
She quickly recounted the day''s
events, and Elysia frowned when she finished. "That really is strange. If Celeste had picked the meeting spot, then I''d say it was one hundred percent her doing-but today, you chose the ce yourself...
"And Celeste''s just an ordinary person; she can''t see into the future or anything..."
