Amara was getting angry now. "Mr. Everly, what do you think you''re doing? Why are you forcing me toe with you?"
"You argued with Keith earlier, didn''t you?" Finnian asked, cutting straight to the point.
“Someone passed by the dressing room while you were fighting and overheard a few things. They told me what happened. What''s going on with you and Keith?”
Amara froze.
So, someone had heard her and Keith arguing.
It wasn''t surprising, really. They had both gotten emotional toward the end, and their voices had risen. It was only natural that someone might have overheard.
Amara lowered her head. “Nothing happened. Please don''t ask, Mr. Everly."
She looked so dejected, and her eyes were still glossy with unshed tears. Did she have any idea how much it looked like someone had hurt her?
Finnian was consumed with worry. "Did Keith hurt you?"
"No, not at all."
Amara quickly denied it.
Keith hadn''t hurt her. This whole mess started because he was trying to do something good for her, something she never wanted him to do.
But Finnian didn''t seem convinced. He still thought Keith had mistreated her. His face darkened as he stood up. “I''m going to have a word with him.”
"Hey, don''t go."
Seeing Finnian about to leave, Amara should have been angry, but for some reason, she felt a small urge tough.
"He really didn''t hurt me. That''s not what we were arguing about," she said, grabbing his arm.
Although she didn''t specify what happened, she had at least admitted that they had argued.
Seeing Amara''s insistence, Finnian stopped.
He reyed what Nora had told him
in his mind and suddenly had an idea. "It seemed like you were
arguing about getting your marriage. license. Are Edith and Nathan still refusing to let you get married?"
Amara''s heart skipped a beat. Finnian was incredibly sharp; he had figured it out so quickly.
But this wasn''t something she could
easily discuss with him. She put on a
stern expression. "Mr. Everly, this is a private matter between us.d''d. rather not talk about it."
Finnian stared at her for a moment before suddenly pulling her into a hug.
Amara was startled. Her first instinct was to nce out the side windows, and after
confirming no one was around, she said, "Mr. Everly, please let me go!"
"Amara," Finnian held her tight, even
patting her backfortingly. "You''re Grandfather''s
granddaughter, and I''m his
grandson. That makes me your older brother. It''s only naturab for a brother to look after his sister. You can tell me about any trouble you''re in."
Amara was utterly dumbfounded by his words.
How could Finnian be so shameless as to call himself her brother, using such twisted logic to justify it?
But... he wasn''t exactly wrong...
Amara''s face grew warm, and she bit her lip, saying nothing.
Finnian loosened his embrace slightly and looked into her eyes. “Really. Just think
of me as your brother. You can tell me anything."
His tone was gentle and persuasive. Was this the same cold, domineering Finnian she knew? She felt like she didn''t recognize him at all.
She remained silent, and Finnian continued, "It must be about Keith''s parents, right? They still don''t approve of you two being together."
Amara sighed. She suddenly felt exhausted, like she really needed to confide in someone...
