He had met all sorts of people in society, and frankly, the bad ones were in the majority. In that light, Amara was a rare find.
"Do you really love Keith?" That''s what Dorian wanted to ask.
He stared intently into her eyes, not wanting to miss any flicker of emotion.
But Amara had a calm demeanor and was good at hiding her feelings. "Yes, I love him," she said.
Dorian couldn''t tell if she was lying. Did she really love Keith? Or was she just that good at deception?
He sat up straighter. "What do you love about him? In terms of looks, power, or status, he can''tpare to Finn."
Amara was speechless for a moment. "First of all, if we''re only talking about looks and power, then yes, Keith has less than Finnian. But you can''t just fall for someone because they''re handsome and powerful. If you do, what happens when someone better-looking and wealthieres along? You''d just move on to the next person."
"Besides, looks and power are only part of a person. You also have to consider their personality and character. When you add all of that up, Keith isn''t necessarily worse than Finnian."
Seeing Dorian''s dissatisfied expression, as if he was about to defend his friend, Amara quickly added, "Don''t get upset. Just think about how terrible Finnian''s personality is."
"He walks around with a cold look on his face all day and barely speaks. Living with him would be so dull and boring."
That one sentence shut Dorian down.
It was true. His best friend had always been cold and unapproachable. Still, he suspected that if Finnian were with Amara, he might not be so cold all the time.
After all, it was Amara, the woman he adored.
But he didn''t say that aloud. Instead, he asked, "So what is it you love about Keith?"
"Weren''t you two childhood friends? How did you go from friends to lovers? If you were going to fall for
each other, wouldn''t it have happened a long time ago? Why now?"
Amara had a ready answer for that. "With the way I used to look, who would have fallen for me?" she said casually only got my appearance ago It''s perfectly normal for Keith to
back a few modevelop feelings
for me recently."
"And it''s the same for me. When I looked like that, I never dared to even think about
him in that way. He was just a good friend."
"It was only after I got back to normal that I allowed myself to consider something more."
Dorian had to admit that reason
made sense. He was all about looks
himself and knew how important
appearance could be Hadn''t he discriminated against Amara for the same reason?
Then another thought urred to him, and his gaze shifted to Amara''s stomach. "Keith doesn''t mind that you''re pregnant?"
He felt exasperated just thinking about it.
Both Keith and Finnian were in love with Amara, but she was carrying another man''s child.
Yet neither of them seemed to care. They both seemed almost eager to be the child''s stepfather. He didn''t know what to make of it.
The question caught Amara off guard.
Honestly, in a society so dominated by male ego, she didn''t think many men would willingly raise another man''s child.
If a man fell for a pregnant woman, he would most likely either give up on her or pressure her to have an abortion.
