Although Amara hadn''t looked directly at Finnian since he and Dorian walked in, she could feel an intense gaze on her and knew exactly who it was from.
Now that he was sitting opposite her, she could see his tense expression out of the corner of her eye. He was staring right at her, and it made her ufortable.
Finnian was already looking so grim, and Elysia was deliberately bringing this up just to stir the pot.
Sure enough, when he heard Elysia mention the marriage license, Finnian''s eyes shot up, and the fist resting on his knee trembled slightly. Was he angry?
Amara felt utterly helpless, but since Elysia had asked, she had to answer. "This Sunday."
"Ooh, Sunday," Elysia repeated, clearly enjoying the drama.
She nced over at Finnian again.
Finnian''s face was dark, his aura oppressive. Seeing him like this, Elysia felt a flicker of satisfaction, a small smile ying on her lips before she quickly suppressed it.
Dorian felt helpless. He really wished Finnian could just forget Amara.
His friend wouldn''t be in so much pain then. But looking at him now, that seemed impossible, and Dorian didn''t know what to say.
The atmosphere had grown tense. Dorian tried to lighten the mood and cheer his friend up. "It''s already past four, almost dinnertime. I''ll order some takeout. What''s everyone in the mood for?"
"No need. I can cook."
Finnian stood up and said the words simply, but they startled the others—or more urately, they startled Dorian and Elysia.
They both remembered thest time they''d seen Finnian cook. It was shocking that a powerful CEO could make such delicious food.
And now he wanted to cook again? Had he gotten addicted to it?
They both looked at Amara and understood why he wanted to cook. They couldn''t help but sigh.
Amara was also surprised and nced at him but said nothing.
Finnian started walking toward the door. "Where are you going?" Dorian asked. "To buy groceries."
"
The words "buy groceries" were so down-to-earth that they seemedpletely out
of ceing from Finnian, leaving Elysia and Dorian speechless.
Amara, however, wasn''t that surprised. If you were going to cook, you had to buy groceries. Besides, she had gone grocery shopping with him before, so didn''t seem strange at all.
After Finnian left to buy groceries, only the three of them remained. Then Elysia got
a call and stepped out onto the balcony to take it, leaving just Amara and Dorian in the room.
Amara feltfortable at Elysia''s ce. With nothing else to do, she was about to pull out her phone to read a novel when Dorian, sitting, opposite her, tapped his fingers on the table. "Can we talk for a minute?"
Amara looked up, confused. What could she and Dorian possibly have to talk about?
Dorian studied Amara.
Ever since he''d gotten over his prejudice against her, he''d realized she was actually
a very simple and honest person.
Everyone said she had be
sharp-tongued after the divorce, that she knew how to talk back now, but in reality, she only ever stood up for herself when she was being bullied She never started trouble.
In the adult world, not actively bullying others already made you a decent person.
