"I saved Finn''s life, and he''s very grateful. If he weren''t with me, he would live with that guilt for the rest of his life."
Hogan knew this was true, which made him feel utterly helpless.
Finnian was aplex person. He didn''t always seem like a good man, but perhaps because he had received so little care as a child, he was deeply grateful to anyone who had ever helped him.
And because Liliana had saved his life, he felt an immense debt of gratitude to her.
After returning to the Everly estate, Amara read for a while before washing up and going to bed. Around midnight, she was jolted awake by the vibration of her phone. She answered groggily, "What is it?"
"Were you asleep?" Keith asked. "I''m outside the Everly estate right now."
Amara was wide awake in an instant. She sat up in bed. "You''re outside now? Wait, I''lle out and meet you."
After Keith had left earlier in the day, she had sent him several messages to check on the situation, but he hadn''t replied. She hadn''t expected him toe find her directly.
She threw on some clothes, crept downstairs, and saw that the first floor was dark; the staff had all gone to bed. Grabbing her key, she slipped out of the mansion.
"How did it go after you went back?"
She asked as soon as she got into Keith''s car. "Did you make up with your parents?"
Keith was still wearing the same clothes from earlier, his hair a mess. He looked like he had rushed over.
He sighed. "My parents are just unreasonable. They''re prejudiced against you now and have forbidden me from marrying you. I''m afraid it''s going to be very difficult for me to get my official papers."
Amara''s heart sank.
Without his official papers, they couldn''t legally be husband and wife. Even if they held a wedding ceremony, Larry wouldn''t recognize it.
Would Larry give her the shares just for holding a ceremony? She couldn''t be sure.
But Keith was probably feeling worse than she was right now. He must have had a huge fight with his parents when he went back.
And hearing them say such unreasonable things must have been incredibly frustrating. Amara patted his shoulder. "Don''t worry Welll figure something out. There'' always a way."
Keith knew she was just trying tofort him. He said in a low voice, "Maybe I can try to steal the documents."
Amara burst outughing.
"That''s something straight out of a TV show. One of my old ssmates even wrote a plot like that. Let''s not go there."
She thought stealing the documents was a bad idea. If Nathan and Edith found out, they would be furious, and the aftermath would be impossible to handle.
So, they either had to get the documents legitimately or find another way. Stealing was not an option.
Keith still looked dejected.
He had finally gotten a chance to be with Amara. A fake marriage first, then they could develop real feelings and be together for real it was such a perfect future, but it had been ruined at the very first step by his parents.
If he couldn''t have a fake marriage with Amara, he feared that even if she developed feelings for himter, they wouldn''t be able to be together. He had to resolve this family issue quickly.
Seeing his gloomy face, Amara found it a little amusing and nudged his shoulder.
"Hey, I''m the one who might not get my inheritance because we can''t get married. Why are you so worried?"
"I''m worried for you, of course," Keith said, slinging an arm around her neck. "We practically grew up joined at the hip, after all."
"No way. Don''t go spreading rumors that we grew up like that," Amara said, pushing him away.
