Larry sized Keith up and nodded slightly. “I remember you. Didn''t you once get into a fight for Amara?"
"Yes, someone was bullying Amara. When I found out, I was so angry I went and beat them all up,” Keith said.
He nced at Amara. "You probably still remember that, right? See, I''ve been protecting you like this since we were kids..."
A timely blush appeared on Amara''s cheeks. She nudged Keith with her elbow, signaling him not to say such embarrassing things in front of her father. Keith feigned a pained look and nodded repeatedly, as if to say he wouldn''t dare do it again.
Their yful, subtle banter made the atmosphere feel natural and rxed, making them look like a couple deeply in love.
Just then, Fiona and Elowen also came downstairs. A few days had passed, and maybe it was just her imagination, but Amara felt that Fiona''s face, which had once been somewhat elegant and dignified, was bing increasingly sharp and mean. Soon, Amara realized it wasn''t her imagination. Fiona had changed. In just a few short days, she had lost a significant amount of weight, and the smile that usually graced her face was gone, reced by a look of deep-seated resentment. It really did make her look acerbic.
"So, Ama is back," Fiona said, casting a cold nce at Amara.
The moment Larry looked her way, she immediately put on a smile and said, "And you brought your boyfriend home. It''s Keith, right? You two knew each other before?"
Amara nced at Fiona again. She was smiling, but her nails were digging into her palm.
Fiona was a smart andposed woman; she shouldn''t be making such a low-level mistake. The fact that she did showed just how low her spirits had sunk recently.
Meanwhile, Elowen, who was a fool to begin with, made no effort to hide her emotions. She stared daggers at Amara, her dislike and hatred obvious. Larry saw this from the side and couldn''t help but frown.
Amara quickly looked away and said, "This is Keith. Keith, this is Mrs. Sullivan.”
Keith nodded at Fiona without showing much enthusiasm.
On the way over, Amara had exined that after Elowen''s
attempt on her life was exposed, she had stopped being cordial to Fiona and Elowen, and Larry hadn''t e
répamanded her f?r it.
Keith
didn''t need to be overly friendly to Fiona either.
Seeing that Keith was just as disrespectful as that little bitch, Fiona seethed, her
nails digging deeper into her palm.
Her eyes darted around as she delivered her prepared lines.
"I saw on the news yesterday that you two are getting married. I was quite shocked."
"Why so rushed? Ama just got divorced not long ago. First, you start dating without telling us, and now you''re suddenly getting married, at this particr juncture... Its all so sudden."
By "this particr juncture," she was undoubtedly referring to the timing of Larry''s decision to give Amara shares.
Fiona''s meaning was clear: she was implying that Amara and Keith''s rtionship was fake, that they were only together to swindle the family fortune.
Larry had harbored a small suspicion about this himself, and Fiona''s words turned that one percent of doubt into thirty. However, he just looked at Amara gravely, saying nothing.
Amara knew Larry all too well; she knew exactly what he was thinking. She sneered inwardly.
"Mrs. Sullivan, what do you mean by that? Are you suggesting our feelings are fake?"
But Amara showed none of her inner thoughts, instead feigning confusion. "Actually, we''ve been together for several months just felt it wouldn''t look good to start a new rtionship so soon after my divorce, which is why I didn''t announce it."
