Mr. Cedric, you are always ready to get your hands d*rty,” Jason jeered, clenching his fists in frustration. “Jason!”
“I know you’re trying to bring honor to the Dempsey name, make us the toast of <b>the </b>town. But not like this, not by betraying those who helped us!”

“Enough! Both of you, shut up!” Dave, holding Mrs. Dempsey, shouted at <b>his </b>sons.
Mrs. Dempsey had never seen her sons fight like this and was beside herself with worry.
“Jason, I heard about Cedric helping the Abernathys. Don’t me him. It’s just his job as awyer.” Ivan tried to mediate, hoping to prevent another fight from breaking out. I’m leaving tonight.”
With a bruised face, Jason announced his departure without another word.
“Jason! Where are you going?” Mrs. Dempsey called after him in concern.
“Where else can he go? He’s probably rushing off to serve his little princess!”
Cedric had never felt so humiliated. With no outsiders present, he felt free to say the harshest things to hurt Jason, “I wonder if the Ashbourne girl can even sleep at night without Jason.” “Bastard! I won’t let you talk about her like that!”
Jason’s eyes were on fire, his hands clenched so tightly they were making a noise.
If it wasn’t for Ivan holding him back, he was ready to throw another punch.
“Enough! You will not disrespect her like that!”
Dave couldn’t stand it any longer. He stepped in between his sons, his presence demanding their attention, “No one is leaving this house tonight. Everyone goes to my study! Ivan, bring the ruler. It’s time for some discipline!”

Ivan, resigned to his fate, could only follow orders, “Yes, Dad.”
Mrs. Dempsey tried to intervene, but her husband was <b>the </b>head of the family. No amount of pleading would change his mind. All she could do was sigh in frustration.

Dave was surprised to see his usually obedient youngest son so worked up over Evadne. His heart sank.
