Chapter 250
In the study, both Elspeth and Glynnis were present.
Frederic would naturally not let Hamilton over. In his eyes, Hamilton was on Thaddeus’s side.
At this point, the father and son were almost entirely at odds.
It seemed that ever since Cynthia, Thaddeus’s biological mother, mitted suicide, they were left with a rtionship in name only.
The chasm between them, now aggravated by Evadne, was exactly what Elspeth wanted to see.
Only when they were at loggerheads, each on their own side, could she take advantage of the chaos and profit from the Abernathy Group!
Even if Frederic was the father of this illegitimate child, what did it matter?
“I called you over to inform you of something.”
Frederic, with a cold face, sat on the sofa and casually threw a freshly printed appointment letter in front of Thaddeus, “I have decided to officially hire Cedric as the legal advisor of the Abernathy Group, also as the head of the legal department. This appointment will be issued first thing tomorrow morning. I have already signed it, there’s no need for your signature as the CEO.
Elspeth and Glynnis stealthily revealed a triumphant smile.
“I don’t agree,” Thaddeus spoke without hesitation, his expression cold.
“I don’t need your agreement. Cedric is a rare talent. Don’t you know how important it is for a corporation to recruit an excellentwyer?”
“Did you clearly hear the conversation between Evadne and Cedric tonight?”
Thaddeus’s eyes were dark, he sneered, “He’s an ungrateful, profit–driven, and unscrupulouswyer, but you have him over here. Do you want to sink to his level?” “You! You insolent son!”
Frederic abruptly stood up, his vision going dark due to the sudden movement. Fortunately, Elspeth was there to support him jh time.
“Frederic, don’t be angry, it’s bad for your health!” She gently stroked her husband’s back, ughing inside.
“The Ashbourne family has done a great favor to the Dempsey family. They were taken care of by Chairman Emeric, even his younger brother Jason is working at the K Group. Despite this, he still has a rebellious heart, betraying his benefactors for his own selfish desires. Do you think you can control such a person? If someone offers more attractive conditions in the future, do you think he will stay obediently in the Abernathy Group, to be used by you?” Thaddeus hit the nail on the head, not giving him any face.
“Thaddeus! All your words are just excuses to protect that devil girl, Evadne!”
With no outsiders present, Frederic finally lost hisposure, his eyes reddening with anger as he roared, “You’re protecting her. Could it be that you’ve fallen for that wretched girl?”
“So what if I have?” Thaddeus’s l*ps parted lightly, calmly uttering these few words.
God knew, his heart was racing as if it was about to fly out!
Hearing this, Frederic was struck like a bolt of lightning, pletely taken aback!
Elspeth and Glynnis probably didn’t expect him to give such an answer either, and were also stunned.
But they couldn’t tell whether Thaddeus genuinely had feelings for Evadne, or if he was just rebelling against Frederic.
After all, this bastard had only been foolish once in his life, that was when he chose to be with Acacia, abandoning Evadne, the precious daughter of the heavens.
“Thaddeus! Are youing to me for regret medicine? There’s no chance!”
Frederic was irate, his eyes twitching with fury, his voice breaking, “I’m telling you, even if you’ve fallen for Evadne, you better give up on that thought and forget about it! As long as I’m alive, I’ll never agree to you being with that devil girl from the Ashbourne family! I knew she was Emeric’s daughter, I would never have let you marry her! Let her fool our family for three years, dying your life for three years!”
The war of words was like a flurry of arrows piercing Thaddeus’s heart.
Suddenly, anger painted his eyes red. The pupils shrank into two sharp, cold stars, filled with a rage that could burn the sky and destroy the earth.
The next second, Thaddeus grabbed the crystal ashtray from the table, raised his arm high, and smashed it to the ground!
It shattered.
“Ah!”
Frederic shivered all over, Elspeth and Glynnis screamed out in fright!
The crystal ashtray fell to the ground, shattering into pieces, and sharp shards scattered everywhere.
A few pieces cut Elspeth’s skirt and arm due to the high impact, blood seeping out. She was so scared and angry that she almost cried on the spot!
“Evadne did nothing wrong, what right do you have to judge her?”
Thaddeus stared with bloodshot eyes, his fists clenched, questioning word by word, “What’s wrong with her marrying me? Where did she fail me, you, or the Abernathy family during those three years of marriage? I failed her. The entire Abernathy family failed her! If anyone says a word against her again, even if it’s you, don’t me me for being ruthless!”
This look…
It was the same look, demon–like, as if it came from a bloody battlefield!
Frederic’s breath hitched, his l*ps trembling.
Back then, when Cynthia jumped from the building, a young Thaddeus was tightly holding his mother’s bloody corpse, looking at his tardy father with the exact
same look!
He despised it, he hated it, but he was more afraid!
Now, for a mere Evadne, he was actually ready to fall out with his biological father?
Elspeth and Glynnis originally wanted to enjoy Thaddeus’s embarrassment, but instead, they ended up getting scared. They didn’t even dare to breathe.
Thaddeus took a deep breath, his eyes closed. He felt there was no need for further words and turned to leave.
“Thaddeus!”
Frederic’s voice echoed hoarsely, trembling with emotion. “Are you choosing the side of the Ashbourne family’s daughter over your own father? Remember your family name. Remember whose blood runs in your veins. Don’t forget that without my support, you would never have risen to your current position, never would have gained influence within the Abernathy Group.”
This was not a new argument.
Thaddeus was unmoved, even slightly annoyed.
“I made you who you are, and I can break you just as easily! Do you really think I won’t strip you of your position? Do you believe I won’t reduce you to nothing?” Frederic was hysterical.
Even Elspeth, his wife, had rarely seen him so enraged.
“If that’s what you want to do, then go ahead. If you have the courage.”
Thadus slowly nced behind him, his gaze cold and determined. “For her, I don’t mind standing against the entire Abernathy Group.
As Thaddeus left the study, his tall and broad shoulders slumped, feeling like his soul was deted.
“Thaddeus.”
A gentle voice called out, he lifted his tear–streaked eyes to see Hamilton standing before him.
He had been so engrossed in his own turmoil that he hadn’t noticed the presence in the hallway.
Hamilton was still in his day clothes, showing no intention of spending the night at the Windermere Estate.
“Grandfather.”
Thaddeus started to speak, his voice rough and choked with emotion.
“I heard the conversation between you and your father in the study.”
Hamilton was seated in his wheelchair. Thaddeus bent down, allowing his grandfather to touch him.
“Although speaking back to your father is disrespectful, this time, it seems we are on the same page!”
Hamilton chuckled and patted Thaddeus‘ shoulder. “I don’t want that Cedric fellow in the Abernathy Group either. Your aim is right, someone who is only interested in profit doesn’t align with ourpany’s culture. Don’t worry, I may be retired, but I’m not out of the game yet. I still have a say in the group. If your father persists, I will intervene.”
“Grandfather, as the CEO, it’s my responsibility to handle this situation. You should be enjoying your retirement, not worrying about such trifles.” Thaddeus didn’t want his grandfather to have to get involved in this–small matter. It would be truly unfilial.
“No problem at all! I’m just making myself useful!”
Hamilton blinked, looking expectantly at Thaddeus. “You said you would protect na and that you have feelings for her, were you serious?”
Thaddeus hesitated, his heart pounding.
After a moment, he swallowed hard and responded in a low voice, “I was just speaking out of anger, without thinking. I didn’t really mean it.”
“Hmm, alright then! If you don’t want to admit it, that’s up to you!” Hamilton sounded somewhat disappointed.
Thaddeus furrowed his brows. “Grandfather.”/
“Let’s go, take me home. It’s boring to travel alone. Keep mepany!”
“Alright.”
Thaddeus pushed the wheelchair, heading down the opposite end of the hallway with his grandfather.
With his back to him, Hamilton’s face broke into a yful smile.
Silly boy.
The words that sl*p out in the heat of the moment were often the truest.
