Chapter 55

Having grown up with a life of luxury, Selena was truly a novice when it came to basic life skills. She couldn''t handle even the simplest task.

She was beautiful, but this didn''t stop people from disliking her.

Women who were a few years older than her especially disliked her and gave her a hard time. Even the men resented her, since her mistakes often got everyone scolded.

They started calling her a spoiled princess, a name that hurt her deeply even if it wasn''t far from the truth.

I would often find her sitting alone by the staircase, quietly crying to herself.

I had started at thepany two weeks before her and had plenty of experience from the various part-time jobs I had done before to support myself. Thus, I picked up on the work quite quickly.

Our team leader also noticed it. Within a few weeks, I was promoted and was already making more than the others who had joined at the same time.

Maybe it was because of my calm temperament, and perhaps thepany''s special arrangements as well, but I was eventually assigned as Selena''s mentor, responsible for teaching her how to work more effectively.

Over those two months of working closely together, Selena gradually became fond of me.

When she confessed her feelings to me before she left the job, I was at a loss but eventually agreed to date her.

Although she wasn''t skilled at work, often getting scolded by the leaders and crying over little things or breaking down easily, I was always there tofort her and convince her to keep going.

Slowly, over those two months, she began to settle in, making friends with her coworkers.

Perhaps because of her family background, she continued to spendvishly despite working entry-level jobs. Within days of getting paid, she would burn through almost everything.

At one point, in order to give her a test, the Norman family cut their financial support for her.

Despite that, Selena continued to splurge on things. She woulde to me for a few hundred dors to get through the month even before the middle of the month.

I would ask her why she didn''t learn to save, and she would look down at her meager bnce, looking as if I had wronged her.

"It''s not like I want to spend all my money," she''d say pitifully. "But if I don''t, how can I build rtionships with everyone?"

She was right. Building connections had always been a costly thing.

"I honestly thought she wouldn''tst. I''m surprised she managed to the end," our leadermented one time.

"Honestly, I stayed because of you," Selena said.

"This job was so tiring and so hard. I wanted to cry and quit every single day. I thought about running away so many times. But when I remember you were still here, it somehow made things a bit more bearable."

"Hudson, being with you every day makes me so happy. I''ve never felt this way before. I really, really like you. Let''s be together, okay?" she said.

Whenever I thought of those words from her confession, a warm feeling would fill my heart.

Some memories, no matter how much else has changed, stayed vivid and fresh. The mere thought of those moments were enough to bring mefort and strength.

"Hudson, what''s wrong?" Selena''s voice pulled me back from my thoughts. She looked at me curiously, waving a hand in front of my face.

I looked at her and smiled, deciding it was time to tell her what I had been wanting to say for so long.

"Actually, Selena, you look the best when you are focused and working hard."
