Chapter 54

"What are you talking about?" Zion seemed puzzled. He looked at me as if he were looking at an idiot.

"Isn''t it exhausting, to always follow behind Selena like this?"

I wasn''t sure if Selena truly loved me, but at least I can tell right now that she cared more about me than she did about Zion, by a long shot.

Zion was stunned for a while, clearly surprised that I would ask something like that.

Then he turned away, only to turn back around with a scoff. "I only do what I like to do. Don''t you worry about it."

But, as if thinking of something else, his expression darkened. A hint of anger then crossed his face, and he said, "Hudson, don''t get too full of yourself. I''ll admit that right now Selena might be paying more attention to you, but give it time. I''ll prove to you that she loves me more."

Watching his fierce determination, I felt inexplicably satisfied.

Though I wasn''t sure if it was for myself or for Selena.

When I turned back to find Selena, she had her head down. She fixed her gaze on theptop screen.

    "Selena," I called out softly.

Upon hearing my voice, she looked up and gestured at herptop. "You''re here, Hudson. Come over and help me review this contract. I want to make sure there aren''t any more issues."

Even though she had be a formidable, decisive businesswoman and CEO, Selena still liked to ask me for help when it came to reviewing contracts.

Back then, in order to support both her and myself, I spent an entire semester studying businessw just for this.

Seeing her being focused and diligent now, the memories of those years came shing back.

Especially those years when we first got together...

Actually, when I first met Selena, I barely knew who she was.

During my college days, due to financial stress, I was always juggling my studies with part-time jobs.

Selena, on the other hand, was known for her wealthy background. I may not have known who the student council president was, but almost everyone had heard of Selena.

She was known as a rich second-generation heiress. She was a flirt, the kind who changed boyfriends as easily as changing clothes.

We met when we both worked at her family''spany.

The summer after my freshman year, Inded an offer with thepany thanks to my university''s reputation.

They agreed to sponsor my tuition for the next four years. And after graduation, I would have to work for them for a minimum of five years.

During those five years, they would cover my living expenses, and I would get all the usual benefits. I agreed right away.

That summer was the first time I met Selena.

Though I had heard her name, I had never seen her in person.

She struck me as gorgeous and outgoing. It was theplete opposite of my boring, reserved self.

She didn''t reveal her identity when she joined us, probably on purpose. Other than me, no one in thepany knew she was an heiress.

Back then, Selena wore clothes worth only a few hundred dors and lived and worked alongside us, enduring the hardships as all the other entry-level staff did.
