    After nearly a week of preparation, everything was finally in ce.


    Elissa didn’t have much to worry about. The Flynn family had arranged everything she needed, and whatever slipped past their hands could be gathered without trouble.


    The real concern rested on N and Ethan. They both needed medical care and had to be cleared before they could travel.


    Thankfully, the two of them were stable.


    Once everything was finalized, it was time to set off.


    At this moment, Savannah knocked on the door. “Elissa, may Ie in?”

    “Sure,” Elissa replied from inside.


    With that, Savannah pushed the door open and found Elissa sitting at the vanity.


    Just as Elissa was about to rise, Savannah lifted her hand. “Stay seated.”


    She then crossed the room and settled into the seat next to Elissa.


    As their parting drew close, Savannah felt a tightness in her chest. It was harder to let Elissa go than she had expected. She took her daughter’s hand and looked her over from head to toe.


    “Have you packed everything?” she asked.


    Elissa nodded. “Yes.”


    Ernest had taken care of everything, so being dressed and ready was all she needed.


    “Good.” Savannah paused, her breath catching a little before she spoke again. “Elissa, I’m sorry for everything I said before.”


    She had once said Elissa was different from others because of her illness. She also mentioned people would look at her lingering weakness and judge her unfairly.


    “It’s okay.” Elissa shook her head. She was slow to catch on at times, but she understood what her mother was scared of. “I know you were just worried about me, Mom.”


    “As long as you’re not upset with me.” Savannah spoke with a mix of guilt and relief.


    Even so, she remained anxious.


    Feelings were unpredictable. Who could promise that Ernest’s affection for Elissa would stay the same forever?


    Life had its own share of risk. However, fear shouldn’t be allowed to cast a shadow over every bright moment.


    The Flynn family had shown nothing but sincerity. Savannah felt she ought to give them a chance. More than that, it was a chance for Elissa to lead a different kind of life.


    Savannah patted Elissa’s hand. “When you get to Srixby, live happily with Ernest. But if he ever treats you badly, you must tell me.”


    “I will.” Elissa nodded, though she could not imagine such a thing happening.


    “Also,” Savannah continued, “I’ll visit you whenever I can. When your weddinges, the whole family will be there. And during the holidays…”


    Neville might not make every trip, but she and William certainly would.


    Elissa nodded. “Alright. Ernest said he’d bring me back to visit, too.”


    “That’s good.” Savannah nodded appreciatively, though her eyes were getting misty.
