Chapter 2940

    ?Chapter 2940:

As soon as the call ended, Hadley gripped her phone so tightly that sweat beaded in her palm. Her face drained of color, and she closed her eyes.

How could this have happened? She had only been away for a few days. When she left, he’d been perfectly fine.

“Hadley!” Emily called out as she hurried over. “It’s time to board the ne!”

    “Oh, alright.”

Hadley slipped her phone into her bag, grabbed her things, and walked toward the boarding gate. Before long, she was seated on the ne.

With her phone in hand, she sent several messages to Xander.

    ??a??e??? ????????????r?? о?? ????????o??е???.??o??

“Tell me once you reach the hospital.”

“If Eric wakes up, let me know right away.”

“And if the doctors find anything, let me know immediately too.”

She sent message after message, but there was still no reply from Xander.

Hadley told herself that Xander must just be too busy to check his phone, and once he saw her messages, he would surely reply.

But then it struck her. The busier Xander was, the worse Eric’s condition might be.

She closed her eyes and leaned back.

All of a sudden, Hadley’s eyes flew open. She nearly forgot! Ellis!

He was waiting for her at the hospital too. And his news had reached her even before Eric’s!

But they hadn’t been sent to the same hospital. When she reached Srixby, where should she head first? How did they both manage to get into trouble at the same time?

Hadley’s heart was in knots, torn between worry and indecision. She silently prayed that Eric would be fine.

Soon enough, Hadley arrived in Srixby.

The ne touched down at Srixby International Airport. Emily walked beside Hadley as they left the ne. “Hadley, I’ll go get the luggage first.”

“Emily!” Hadley called after her in a hurry. “I have something urgent to take care of, so I need to leave right away.”

    “What’s wrong?”

Seeing the tension in her face, Emily quickly said, “It’s okay, go ahead! Thepany car is already waiting for you at the exit.”

“There’s no need!” Hadley shook her head and said, “You take the car. I’ll grab a taxi.”

Emily still had luggage with her, which made catching a taxi inconvenient.

“I’ll head off then. Thanks for everything!”

    “No prob—”

Before Emily could finish, Hadley had already turned and was sprinting toward the taxine.

Panting, Hadley slid into the back seat of a taxi.

    “Where to?”

“To…” Hadley faltered, her thoughts spinning in chaos. Where should she go?

“Excuse me?” the driver asked, reminding her there was no time to waste.

After weighing her options, Hadley said, “Sorry to trouble you, please take me to Srixby General Hospital.”

    “Alright.”

The cab pulled away from the curb.

Hadley twisted her fingers together, voice trembling as she pleaded, “Please, could you drive faster?”

“Sure.” The driver gave a quick nod. “Hang on a bit, we’re still on the airport road, and the speed limit here is strict…”

    “Alright.”

Eric, dressed in a hospital gown, paced restlessly around the ward, ncing at the clock again and again. He turned to Xander once more and asked, “Has she arrived yet?”

“Not yet.” Xander gave a slight shake of his head.

“How can that be? Don’t tell me there’s a traffic jam.”

“Ugh!” Ernest, who had been sitting quietly on the sofa, finally lost patience and red at his brother. “Quit pacing already! You’re making me dizzy!”

For a grown man with a clear head, Ernest had already gone above and beyond just by humoring his brother this far.

“Oh? Alright.” Eric paused for a moment and gave a nod. “Fine, I’ll stop pacing.”

Yet no sooner had he said it than he was pacing around the room again.

Ernest let out a weary sigh.

    Why was Eric pacing again?
