    N gave a faintugh as she absently rolled the jade bracelet on her wrist.


    “If you already know it’s a disturbance, why bothering at all?”


    N’s pointed remark caught Ellis off bnce.


    As the former matriarch of the Flynn family, N didn’t sugarcoat her words.


    Yet, even as the sting of her bluntnessnded, Ellis harbored no bitterness.


    “You’re absolutely right, Mrs. Flynn. I was inconsiderate.”


    “Very well,” N replied, deciding not to press further. She gestured toward the sofa.


    “Please, sit down.”


    Ellis inclined his head.


    “Thank you,” he said, taking the seat she indicated.


    “So then, Mr. Gomez, why would youe here so suddenly?”


    “Mrs. Flynn, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ellis Gomez, I’m thirty years old, born and raised in Lunville.” Bowing slightly, Ellis began.


    His eyes shifted toward Hadley.


    “And Hadley and I are currently in a rtionship.”


    The room grew still, the air heavy with silence.


    “Hadley?” N’s voice caught in disbelief as she turned toward her.


    “What is he talking about?”


    “N…” Hadley faltered,pletely unsettled.


    Since N knew Hadley better than most, the news startled her.


    “Is it true? Are you actually seeing him?”


    With her eyes closed briefly, Hadley nodded.

    N’s shock deepened, her chest tightening painfully.


    “How is this possible?”


    Until now, she had believed Hadley and Eric had finally found their way together.


    “Mrs. Flynn, Hadley and I aremitted. This is not casual. We intend to marry, and if circumstances allow, we hope to marry soon…” After a pause, Ellis continued in a steady tone. Every so often, he nced at Hadley as he spoke.


    “That is why I’vee tonight. We want your blessing.”


    “What?” N’s breath hitched in astonishment. Marriage was already on the table?


    Her gaze lingered on Hadley, waiting for an answer. Though Hadley kept silent, herck of denial spoke volumes.


    “I hear you,” N said atst, giving a slow nod. Her tone, however, was measured.


    “But marriage is not a game. It cannot be settled with a few casual words. I’m weary tonight and need rest. You should leave for now.”


    “I see.” Ellis inclined his head slightly, maintainingposure.


    “Please forgive the intrusion, Mrs. Flynn. I’ll take my leave so you can rest.”


    With a polite bow, he turned away and began to step out. Since he hadn’t expected her approval tonight, there was no disappointment in his expression.


    “N,” Hadley called out, her brow furrowing as she hurried after Ellis.
