?Chapter 1445:
“I’m sorry! I know I messed up. Please—don’t be angry.”
“You don’t owe me an apology!” Hadley’s voice was sharp, her chest rising with each breath. “Your health is your own problem. I’m not responsible for it. I never was!”
She tried to pull away, but he held on tighter.
“You have to care,” his voice cracked. “Because if you don’t, no one else will.” He pressed his face against her stomach, the words muffled.
“Hadley… my head hurts. It’s pounding. I feel like it’s going to explode.”
Then why, in the world, had he even drunk?
“That’s what you get,” Hadley muttered, frowning as she tugged at his arms.
“Get up.”
He clung to her tightly. She couldn’t move him.
When she looked down, she noticed his eyes were shut—like he had already fallen asleep.
“Phillips!” Panic crept into her voice. “Come here. Did he pass out?”
“Coming.”
Phillips rushed over and helped lift Eric off the floor.
“Hadley…” Eric mumbled her name without opening his eyes.
She and Phillips exchanged a nce, both letting out a quiet sigh.
If he could still speak, he was conscious.
Phillips hesitated, then said, “He didn’t have much of a choice tonight. Ferris’ children were all there. He was afraid of slipping up.” He then added, “He tried to avoid it. He barely drank at all.”
The real reason Eric felt like this wasn’t alcohol—it was the weight he carried.
Hadley fell silent.

She didn’t know the ins and outs of the Scott family’s power ys, but she knew pressure when she saw it.
Phillips gestured toward her door. “I’ll help him inside.”
Before she could protest, he was already guiding Eric toward her bed. Hadley opened her mouth to protest, but Phillips had already eased him onto the bed.
She hurried after them without another word.
“All done,” Phillips exhaled, slightly out of breath. He looked at her. “Anything else?”
She opened her mouth to speak—but stopped.
Was she really going to ask him to move Eric back to the sofa? Given his state, that felt cruel.
“No.” She shook her head.
“Alright. Call if you need anything.” Phillips nodded and stepped out.
Momentster, a knock came at the door. It was the servant. She peeked in and asked, “What about Mr. Scott’s medicine?”<fnbf0e> Content originallyes from fι?dnοvel</fnbf0e>
Hadley nced at Eric, already fast asleep on her bed. She sighed. “Let him skip it tonight.”
He couldn’t take his medicine in this condition—especially after drinking.
