?Chapter 1239:
Denver, caught off guard, hesitated briefly. “Why would you think that?”
“Humph!” With a sharp exhale, Eric’s frustration boiled over. “Really? You’re her boyfriend, yet you’ve ignored her all day. She’s seriously ill, fainted from a raging fever. You weren’t aware? What sort of partner does that make you?”
Hadley was ill?
A shadow passed over Denver’s face as he felt a pang of sorrow.
However, he maintained hisposure, offering a slight smile. “Really? I wasn’t aware.”
“You!” Eric’s gaze hardened, his voice cold. “What are you even saying? You’re her boyfriend—”
“No,” Denver said evenly, cutting him off. “I am not her boyfriend. That’s not true.”
What? What had Denver just revealed?
Eric stood dumbfounded, struggling to grasp the situation. “Are you out of your mind? Could I have misunderstood?”
“You’re not mistaken, and nor am I insane.” Denver met his gaze firmly, his voice calm. “Hadley and I are not together romantically. Her health has nothing to do with me…”
“Bullshit!”
In a sudden burst of anger, Eric seized Denver by the cor, his eyes piercing. Tension pulsed at his temples.
“What are you saying? rify now!”
“I’m saying that I no longer have feelings for Hadley,” Denver replied, his voice steady despite the tension.
Eric’s temper red like a storm on the horizon. “What in zes did you just say?” he barked, his voice sharp with disbelief. Shock had loosened his tongue, and a curse slipped free.
His dark eyes zed with fury as he seized Denver by the cor, his other hand balled into a fist, poised to strike like a hammer waiting to fall.
Denver stood his ground, unflinching, his eyes drifting shut as if weing fate’s verdict. “Go on; hit me. I deserve it. I’m a jerk!”
Eric’s face drained of color, his jaw locked tight, his trembling fist betraying the storm raging within. Yet, his poised fist hovered in the air, never meeting its mark against Denver.

This was the man Hadley cared for—Denver. Striking him would wound her too.
Eric’s lips pressed into a thin line as he growled, “Why?”
“Why?” Denver’s eyes fluttered open, a wry smile twisting his lips like a bittersweet melody. “I don’t know. I just… don’t love her anymore.”
“You snake!” Eric’s eyes burned with rage, his chin jutting forward as he pointed usingly at Denver.
A sudden thought struck him like lightning. “Is it that trending story? Because I stepped in to set the record straight?”
Denver shrugged, one eyebrow archingzily. “Could be.”
Eric’s chest tightened, disbelief clouding his features like a fog. “You’re telling me you just realized we were once together? Don’t be ridiculous! When you fell for her, she was still my wife! You swore it didn’t matter—said her past was irrelevant, that you only cared about her future.”
“True,” Denver said with a faint chuckle. “I did say that.”
“Then what is eating you?” Eric was a volcano ready to erupt, his blood simmering beneath the surface.
