?Chapter 1237:
“Understood…”
Joy seemed to grasp the gravity of the situation, maintaining her distance with a solemn nod.
Tears welled up in her eyes, making her appear both disciplined and sorrowful.
To ease Hadley’s difort, Melba retrieved an ice pack from the refrigerator, muttering to herself,
“Mr. Flynn ought to have arrived by now…”
Joy dashed to the door as the bell chimed, her face lighting up with anticipation.
“Eric, you’re here!”
“Joy!” Embracing her, Eric swept into the apartment, his eyesnding on Hadley, stretched out on the sofa.
Melba rose to her feet.
“You made it…”
“Melba.” Eric gave a brief nod, passing Joy into her arms.
“I’m taking Hadley to the hospital now. You stay here and look after Joy.”
“Got it. Will do!”
Eric crouched down, carefully cradling Hadley in his arms. As he adjusted his hold, Hadley’s eyes fluttered open.
“Hadley?”
With a flushed ze, she nced up at him, but her eyelids quickly fell shut again.
Clutching her closer, Eric could feel the heat of her fever radiating through her skin. Clearly, this was more than just a simple cold.
Without wasting another second, he strode out of the apartment.
“Mommy…”
Joy’s cries lingered in the air.
“Stay strong, Joy. I’m taking your mom to get help. She’ll feel better once the doctor sees her, okay?”

Though her mind remained alert, Hadley felt as if she were burning alive with fever. She was utterly drained, and every slight movement brought pain.
“The fever is due to a viral infection. She’s also anemic, which exins the fainting,” the doctor exined after his assessment.
“We’ll need to administer IV fluids for a couple of days.”
In the recovery area, Hadley’s vitality began to return following her IV treatment. Settled into the recliner, she offered Eric a grateful smile.
“Thanks for all this. I’m much better. You should get back to work now.”
Her courteous tone unintentionally ced a distance between them.
Aplex look crossed Eric’s face.
“I can’t just leave you here… I’ll get Denver toe by, and then I’ll head out…”
His hand was already on his phone as he spoke.
“Stop!” Hadley interjected sharply, halting him in his tracks.
“Let me make the call.”
Eric stopped, looking at her.
“Sure. Do you have your phone with you?”
“Yes, I’ve got it right here.”
