Connor had been happy to see Gwh at first, but then something seemed to ur to him, and his expression soured. The yful grin he wore while bantering with Leonie vanishedpletely.
Gwh ced the fruit basket she''d brought on the bedside table. “I''m relieved to see you have someone taking care of you," she said gently. "I''m so sorry, Connor. I really couldn''t get away. When I came to see you before, you were still unconscious."
Connor just snorted, though he didn''t really hold it against her. Gwh was married now, and he had to ept that.
They had barely exchanged a few words when amotion erupted at the door. Several young men tumbled into the room, pushing and shoving one another.
"Connor, look what we brought you! You and Leonie are in for a treat today-roast beef! Hahahahaha!"
The boisterousughter sent a shiver down Gwh''s spine. The men''sughter died abruptly as their eyesnded on her.
"You... you... what are you doing here?" one of them stammered, their dislike for her immediately apparent.
Leonie, who had gotten to know the group well over the past month, shot them a re. "What''s with the ''you you you''? This is my aunt, Gwh."
They were clearly unhappy to see her, but they knew her ce in Connor''s heart. Plus, they didn''t dare offend Leonie, who had saved them from the round-the-clock duty of caring for Connor. With Connor still needing time to recover, they knew they would need her help again. A bunch of clumsy guys like them would only make a mess of things.
"You guys need to learn some manners," Connor said, backing Leonie up.
Liam scratched his head. "So, what do we call her? She''s Mr. Everhart''s wife."
Connor nearly coughed up blood, his face turning dark. “Call her ''Aunt Gwh.""
"..." Gwh was speechless. With Connor using that title, she was now a generation above all of them.
"Uh, you don''t have to. You can just call me Gwyn-"
Before she could finish, the men lined up, bowed respectfully, and chanted in
unison, "Hello, Aunt Gwh!"
“???” Had they all just adopted Leonie''s family hierarchy?
Once they were done, Connor said coolly, “Leave the food and get out. I need to talk to them."
At hismand, the group took the hint and scurried out. As much as they disliked Gwh, they couldn''t deny the chemistry between her, Connor, and Leonie. They had Roped for some drama, but the three of them seemed to be getting along just fine.
Under Connor''s intense gaze, his friends retreated as quickly as they had arrived.
He then turned to Gwh, his eyes unfriendly. "You didn''te here just to gloat, did you? Thanks to you, I got hurt but didn''t die. I''m doing fine. So now that you''ve seen me, just say what you want to say and get it over with."
What truly angered him was the fact that she had really married Hawthorne. He and Gwh were the ones who were perfect for each other. What was so great about that Hawthorne guy anyway?
Leonie heard
the
acidic tone in his
voice and instinctively pped the back of his head. "Is that any way to talk to my aunt? I heard you were the one who talked her into racing weren''t you? She''s just a girl what does she know? If you hadn''t let her drive your car that day, this never would have happened. My uncle and aunt haven''t even settled the score with you yet!"
His friends had told her everything, spilling all the details in their gossipy chats.
Connor sneered at Gwh. “Looks like you haven''t been entirely honest with your little niece, have you? Did you forget to tell her who your mother is?”
Gwh was both amused and annoyed. Leonie was now staring at her with wide, curious eyes. “Aunt Gwh, what is he talking about?"
"He''s just joking with you, Leonie," Gwh said with a sigh.
But Leonie didn''t think he was joking at all.

continued, "Your aunt has
quite the background. Besides the Langford family being one of the wealthiest in Starfall City, your uncle''@mother-inw happens to be a world renowned racing legend. You have nothing to worry about when ites to her."
