"You don''t need toe for her. She knows I''m her savior, so why isn''t she here herself?"
Leonie''s smiling delivery made her words sound passive-aggressive to Connor.
“Because my aunt is busy, of course. Did she not tell you? She''s about to marry my uncle. Everyone in Greenvale knows they''re having one ceremony in Starfall City and another back here during the winter holidays.
"Isn''t it obvious why she isn''t here? They''ve already left for Starfall City. It''s a shame, really. A real shame you''re injured, or you''d definitely be invited to the celebration. I heard you were her childhood sweetheart. I''ve heard of a once-in-a- lifetime love, but a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of thing? That''s a new one on me."
As Leonie''s taunts grew sharper, even Connor''s friends started to look ufortable.
But Connor wasn''t one to be trifled with. Instead of getting angry at her ridicule, he replied with a sinister calm, "At least I get the ''blue moon'' title. It means I still hold a ce in her heart. So, they went back to Starfall City to get married? Good for them. What does it matter? They can get married, and they can also get divorced."
Leonie gasped, shaking her head vehemently. "Don''t you dare jinx them! My aunt and uncle are deeply in love. You can keep dreaming for the rest of your life, but it''ll never happen."
Seeing them so caught up in their argument, Connor''s friends exchanged a look.
“Miss Everhart, perhaps you could watch over Connor for us? We''ve got some things to take care of, so we''ll be heading out."
They couldn''t stand the sight of Gwh, but this fiery young woman seemed different. She was pretty, with a sharp tongue to match—a perfect foil for Connor.
Before Leonie could refuse, the men scattered faster than rabbits. They had been taking turns watching over Connor for a while now, all of them sleep deprived and in desperate need of a shower. Leonie''s arrival was a godsend. She could keep Connorpany and, being a woman, could call a doctor or nurse
if anything sensitive came up.
Besides, Connor found them annoying. Leaving him with her might actually be
better for his recovery.
"Hey! What do you think you''re doing? If you''re leaving, so am I!" Leonie cried out in panic. What did they mean by dumping Connor on her?
But his friends pretended not to hear a thing.
Soon, the room was empty, and

Leonie was on the verge of tears. Connor''s injuries were severe, and
someone needed to stay with him. Wrapped in ster from head to toe, he couldn''t even press the call button if there was an emergency. Cóntent
Leonie turned to Connor. "Don''t you have any other girlfriends? Call one of them over. I don''t have time for this."
Connor was fuming. His friends must have lost their minds to leave him with this woman.
"Other than your aunt, I don''t have any other girlfriends,” he snapped. “Tell her toe take care of me."
Leonie rolled her eyes. "In your
dreams. ll stay for one hour, tops. If
your friends arent back by them,
youre on your own. If you kick the
bucket, don''t me me."
