The Silent 346

Hearing Benedict''s words, Eliza paused briefly. A sneer appeared on her face, and her voice was cold. "Unfortunately, there''s no second chance in this case,"

Hearing her words, Benedict couldn''t hold himself back. He opened his mouth and spewed out arge mouthful of blood. Eliza''s fingertips twitched slightly, but her gaze remained unchanged. Meanwhile, Tina nced at her sideways. After spitting out that mouthful of blood, Benedict looked almost lifeless. He seemed even weaker than the sick Anthony. Strangely enough, even in such a state, Benedict could still stand upright on the spot.

It was as if he had an unknown energy source supporting him, preventing him from copsingpletely.

As he stood, Benedict calmed his breathing. He slowly wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, pursed his pale lips, and looked at Eliza again. "How''s Dn doing?"

Eliza replied indifferently, "No idea." She didn''t take in Dn and didn''t know why Benedict asked her about him.

Benedict seemed hopeless. Under his father''s watchful eyes, he couldn''t visit Dn anymore. Hence, he just hoped Dn was okay. Perhaps among the siblings, only Dn could stay by Eliza''s side.

Eliza didn''t know what Benedict was thinking. Otherwise, she''d surely let out a

    sneer.

After a brief silence, Benedict spoke, "Eliza, I know Anthony had done something to you. But I think there might be some misunderstandings between you. So I asked him about it. He told me he heard you say he was a useless waste..."

"A useless waste? How can you be so sure?" Eliza almostughed out loud, her anger bubbling to the surface. It was obvious who had framed her yet again. Yet, some people always fell for Sophie''s maniptions.

Eliza sneered, “Misunderstanding? I don''t give a damn about misunderstanding. But I know that none of you ever listened to me, not even once. You used me of things I didn''t do, and insisted I said things I never said. Every argument I make has always been pointless!

"And now, you''re saying there''s a misunderstanding between us? Are you trying to save your face?"

Benedict quickly interjected, his voice trembling, "I''m listening now. I swear, I''m listening to you, Eliza!

"Please, just this once. Give me a chance. I promise, I''ll never doubt you again. I swear it!"

Benedict raised his hand, his voice desperate as he vowed, "From now on, no matter what happens, I''ll believe you. I''ll stand by your side and never misunderstand you again.

"If I break this promise, you can abandon me and let me die a slow and painful death."

"Enough!" Dn shut his eyes, then opened them and said tly, "You can believe whatever you want. But I believe Eliza. Always have."

Eliza''s voice cut through the air like a de, her eyes red as she red at Benedict. "Stop talking. Whether you truly regret it or not, I will never forgive any of you!"

Without another word, she turned and strode away, her figure fading.

“No, Eliza, don''t go!" Benedict panicked, stumbling forward in an attempt to catch up to her. But Eliza''s pace was swift and unyielding. She moved so quickly that Benedict, weakened and frail, couldn''t keep up.

After only a few steps, his legs gave out, and he copsed to the ground once

    more.

The once tough man had be a helpless weakling, wing at the ground in a futile attempt to rise, only to fall back down each time. In that moment, Benedict had never felt so utterly broken.

''Maybe the one truly crippled wasn''t Anthony... it was me,'' Benedict thought bitterly.

Lying on the ground in disgrace, Benedict struggled to lift his head, his gaze fixed

in the direction where Eliza had disappeared. "Eliza, I need your help. Please,e back. Help me."
