Chapter 339

Vespera froze. Her thoughts jolted violently. It was as if her soul had been ripped out of her body.

A momentter, she replied with two words, "Wee back."

Nancy had intentionally messaged her to inform that she would be back next Wednesday. She couldn''t be any clearer.

Vespera vaguely recalled what Natasha had said in the morning. She mentioned that Fawn had called a certain someone and asked Dominic to remain cautious.

Could the certain someone be Nancy?

Vespera''s heart sank a little. A momentter, she smiled sadly.

While distracted, her phone fell into the water and became submerged among the petals and foam. She quickly fished it out of the water, but the screen had already turned ck.

Vespera couldn''t turn on her phone-It was officially dead. She blinked, looking slightly out of it.

As the mist surrounded the bathtub, Vespera stared sorrowfully at her phone. It had submerged through those dreamy bubbles and fragrant petals and went dead unexpectedly.

But so what if the phone suddenly went dead?

So what if Vespera had fallen for Dominic?

The reality was cruel to her. Since she had expected this to happen, there would be no miracles.

Vespera got out of the water and wrapped a towel around herself. Then, she turned to pick up the phone she had ced between the scented candle and wine ss before tossing it into the water.

    ...

The next day, after Vespera had breakfast, she left her apartment to get a new phone. Then, she took a taxi to her parents'' ce so she could pick up her car.

In the taxi, Dominic''s call went through immediately as soon as Vespera switched on her phone, and she said, "Hello."

"You''re not at home. Why''d you switch off your phone?" Dominic probed as if he realized something was wrong. His voice sounded faint over the phone.

Vespera was troubled by how astute Dominic was. She leaned against her seat and found a rxing position.

She then answered casually, "I identally dropped my phone into the water while taking a bathst night. The entire phone went dead, so I went to get a new one this morning."

    Dominic remarked. "So careless."

Vespera retorted. "It''s not like I wanted any of this to happen. It was an ident."

"Since you''ve bought the phone, are youing home now?"

"I''m going to my parents'' house to pick up my car. Then, I''ll be heading to the office right away." Since Dominic did not say a word, Vespera continued, "We''ll meet at the office. See youter."

She had uttered thosest words rather sweetly. It was as if the tenderness fromst night still lingered.

Once she had ended the call, her smile dropped immediately. She wore an indifferent expression once again.

The taxi driver peeked at Vespera in the backseat and secretly assumed her to be a heartbreaker.

Vespera returned to her parents'' home so she could pick up her car. Wanda had just returned from grocery shopping, and Vernon was busy taking care of the priceless orchid on the balcony.

"Your father has checked on the orchids several times-even at midnight told him to sleep on the

balcony and cuddle with that nt." Wanda put the meat away in the fridge whileining to Vespera, who let out a chuckle.

Wanda looked at Vespera before asking tentatively, "Do you have feelings for Mr. Reid? He''s rather outstanding, whether it''s his looks, presence, or education. Since you work with him every day, aren''t you interested at all?"

"Mom, he and I-we don''t stand a chance." Vespera''s smile faded. "His mother has someone else in mind."

Wanda looked at the way Vespera avoided eye contact and how she returned home in a taxi. She knew what was going on when Vespera mentioned that she stood no chance with Dominic, and his family already had their own arrangements.

    Wanda sighed.
