As they entered, Lana offered a slight smile. "Oh, everyone''s here."
The woman was slender and fine-boned. Her pale amber eyes always seemed to hold a faint haze, giving off an air of weary detachment. Every movement carried a quiet, elegant poise.
She was the very image of a well-breddy. She wasn''t as stunning or striking as Aurora, but her grace was in a ss of its own. Hers was a ssic beauty that became more captivating the longer you looked at her.
McCoy, who had followed Lana into the room, spoke first. "Aurora, are you all right?" Aurora managed a weak smile. "I''m fine. Thank you for your concern, McCoy."
"What happened? Who did this?" McCoy asked.
Beside him, Queenie sneered. "Who else could it be but Ste?"
"Ste?" McCoy frowned. "The same Ste who attended the Chapman family banquet? Lauretta and Ste are good friends. Could there be a misunderstanding?"
"What misunderstanding could there be?" Queenie retorted. "Ste has always disliked Aurora. She''s been targeting her ever since they were at the Williams family home."
"That''s just spection," McCoy said. "Do you have any proof?"
"I was out shopping with Aurora at the time," Queenie exined. "The attackers were clearly prepared. They separated me from her and then started beating her. They warned her to stay away from Joshua and never to let them see her trying to seduce him again. Joshua is Ste''s bodyguard, and their rtionship is ambiguous. If it wasn''t her, who else could it be?"
Listening to this, Simone felt a surge of satisfaction. Honestly, she had wanted to do the same thing for a long time, but after the trouble she''d causedst time resulted in he
brother losing his shares, she hadn''t dared to act. She hadn''t expected Aurora to get hereuppance so quickly!
Good, Simone thought. She must have been seducing too many men, and someone finally got fed up.
However, Simone suspected the attacker might not have been Ste. She had known Ste long enough to know that she wasn''t the type for such Cude, direct violence. And the mention of Joshua... Could it be
another one of his secret admirers? Whoever it was, they were doing the world a favor.
At the moment, Simone''s hatred for Aurora was stronger than anyone''s. She started chatting with Lana and learned that Aurora and McCoy had met at a ridingpetition. They hadter be closer due to a shared interest in calligraphy.
What a familiar script. It was almost identical to how she had gotten to know her brother, Leonard. It seemed that after sensing Leonard''s growing indifference, Aurora had already started scouting for a new target.
Before long, Sellers arrived. He seemed surprised to see McCoy, and the two men exchanged a brief nod of greeting.
Sherman, seeing his uncle, asked, "Uncle, have you found out anything about the attackers?"
Sellers'' expression was cold. "They were clean. Didn''t leave a single trace." Queenie immediately jumped in. "Someone who has a grudge against Aurora and can operate that cleanly... besides Ste, who else could it be?"
The group began debating who had assaulted Aurora. McCoy and Lana, not fully understanding the situation, remained silent. The three Burtons, however, were adamant that Ste was the culprit.
Simone, for her part, wasn''t particrly interested in who beat Aurora. Of course, it would be best if it were Ste. Letting Ste and Aurora tear each other apart— sisters turning on each other-would be far too entertaining.
