Chapter 846

Her face shifted, and for a second, she looked like she might actually punch him.

She bent down, striding straight toward the bed.

Jackson went to shower. When he came out, he flopped down, ready to crash- only for her voice to slice through the quiet, cold as ice. "I don''t remember ''sharing a bed'' being in the deal."

Seriously, he''d never met a woman who could switch up this fast. One minute, tangled up together like nothing else mattered; the next, she was all business, drawing lines like they hadn''t just been wrapped around each other an hour ago.

He sat at the edge of the bed, frustrated, when her phone started ringing. The name on the screen? "Husband."

She picked up, not bothering with speakerphone.

"Yeah, I''m workingte tonight, so I''m noting home. You''ve had a long day- go to bed early. I''ll be back in the morning."

He had no idea what the guy on the other end was saying, but she was smiling softly. "Don''t worry about me. Take care of yourself, too."

Once she hung up, the room fell dead silent.

Jackson could see it clear as day-she was all warm and sweet on the phone, but with him, she didn''t even try to pretend.

He got up, grabbed his jacket, and headed for the door.

Kaitlyn pulled the covers up and didn''t say a word.

Jackson walked out of the penthouse still feeling irritated, and before he could stop himself, he called Nichs.

Nichs wasn''t exactly having a good week either. He kept getting the feeling Scarlette and Morgan were hiding something from him, but he was scared that pushing Scarlette would just make her shut him out. On the other hand, if he went behind her back to talk to Morgan and she found out, she''d be even colder to him.

Jackson sighed, "You busy? Want to get a drink?"

"No can do. I''m outside Scarlette''s ce."

Jackson let out a long breath. This guy had been hanging around Scarlette''s apartment almost every nighttely.

"Dude, seriously? You just gonna camp out there and let thepany run itself?"

Nichs was actually a great manager, buttely, he''d been working overtime just to squeeze out more time for Scarlette whenever she''d let him.

He dropped his gaze, sounding a little down. "What about you? Why are you calling me at this hour?"

Let''s be real: if Jackson wanted to go drinking now, he was probably having a rough night himself.

He called Nichs pathetic, but honestly, he was starting to feel the same way.

Then again, he and Nichs weren''t the same. Nichs actually loved Scarlette that''s why he did all this crazy stuff.

Jackson? He didn''t love Kaitlyn; he just wanted to sleep with someone else''s wife.

And not getting enough just left him annoyed.

Once he figured that out, he started to feel a little better. "Eh, doesn''t matter. Colin''s off doing who-knows-what, Dn''s busy ying house with ra, so you''re all I''ve got. But if you''re busy, forget it."

Besides, he''d already gotten what he wanted tonight. So what if his mood was a little off, thinking about Kaitlyn''s gentle voice on the phone? He couldn''t help it— his smile faded. "Whatever. I''m hanging up."

Nichs just rolled his eyes at the weird call. Jackson seriously needed a hobby. He kept his eyes on the building, not wanting to miss Scarlette.

He''d already called her she still wasn''t home, and it was nearly midnight. What was she doing out thiste?

He waited another thirty minutes. Then, finally, someone knocked on his car window.

Scarlette was standing outside, holding a bag, her voice calm but not exactly friendly. "How much longer are you nning to keep this up?"

He''d been staking out her ce for a whole week.

He thought maybe she hadn''t noticed, but obviously, she had.

Nichs gave up pretending. He got out and pulled her into his arms. "You knew I was waiting. Why do you keeping home sote?"

Scarlette didn''t pull away. She wrapped her arms around his waist. "I wanted to see how long you''dst."

Nichs was stunned-she was hugging him first?

He felt a rush of happiness, bent down, and kissed her, long and deep. When he finally let go, he sounded almost hurt.

"What have you been up totely? You never answer my calls. If you didn''te home every night, I''d probably lose it."

Scarlette gently pushed him away, heading for the entrance. "Come on."

He followed, practically like a puppy.

As soon as they got inside her apartment, he couldn''t hold back anymore. He hugged her from behind, kissing her softly over and over. "Scarlette, don''t push me. If you''re hiding something, just tell me now. Don''t make me find out the hard way, or I swear-"

Before he could finish, she turned and hugged him tight. “Enough with the tough talk."

She stood on tiptoe and kissed him, stopping his words cold.

Nichs was dazed, overwhelmed by the sudden happiness.

He forgot everything else, swept her up in his arms, and carried her straight to the

    bed.
