“Even if I take care of my other ns first, it won’t be done anytime soon,” Jessica spoke up.<fnab56> This text is hosted at F?ndNovel</fnab56>
Melvin tilted his head, genuinely curious. “Need any help?”
Jessica looked at him. “Can you help me date someone else?”
Melvin paused for a second. “If you’re serious, I guess I could.”
“What do you mean, help?”
“Maybe run a background check for you,” Melvin answered, taking it at face value.
“Forget it.” With a heavy sigh, Jessica gave up on the small talk. “Let’s just get to the point. Why did you ask to meet?”
Melvin looked at her, not dodging the question. “Do you still have feelings for me?”
He knew if her answer was yes, it was time to finallye clean. If her answer was no, he saw no reason to trouble her with what he had to say.
Jessica didn’t reply right away. Suddenly, she stood up and snatched her bag. “I don’t have feelings for you!”
How could he be so oblivious? After liking him for so many years, did he really think her feelings would just vanish overnight? The thought left her fuming.
Melvin got up at once, trailing behind her.
Noticing he was right on her heels, Jessica turned on him, frustration boiling over. “Why are you still following me?”
“Because I think you still like me,” Melvin said without hesitation, reading into her irritation. “If you don’t mind, would youe to my ce? I want to exin everything.”
Jessica looked at him in disbelief.
Melvin repeated himself. “Would that be alright?”
“Aren’t we driving to your ce?” Jessica couldn’t help teasing him.
Melvin didn’t waste any time and walked her straight to the car.
Once inside, just before the car moved, Jessica cleared her throat and said, “Can you help with the seatbelt?”

“You can manage.” Melvin gave her a t look.
Jessica waspletely caught off guard. She shot him a look filled with doubt. Did he even hear himself right now?
“You’re married. Buckling your seatbelt for you seems a bit too intimate,” Melvin said, his tone straightforward and careful. “It wouldn’t be right.”
“But bringing me over to your home is totally fine?” Jessica clicked her seatbelt into ce, torn between being annoyed and finding the whole thing funny.
“I’ve already cleared it with Jack and your parents.” Melvin kept his expression steady. “They gave me permission to speak with you in private.”
Jessica found herself at a loss for words.
She nced over at him. “So if they said no, would you just have—”
“They would have agreed sooner orter,” Melvin answered, sounding sure of himself. Whenever he acted, it meant he had already worked out everything in his head.
He said nothing more, starting the car and driving Jessica toward his home.
