?Chapter 1435:
Jacob didn’t even bother with aeback.
Jessica stepped out of her room just in time to catch that line. She paused, then tiptoed back inside and shut the door as quietly as possible. She never realized Lawrence couldy on the charm so thick.
“Then go get rid of it,” Jacob said with a casual shrug while heading downstairs.
“It’s only because of you that I went off the deep end.” Lawrence trotted after him, still upbeat. “If I get rid of this, you’ll lose your number one fan.”
Jacob replied coolly, “Honestly, that sounds perfect.”
“You’re downright cold,” Lawrence huffed.
Jacob filled a ss with water, unbothered. “d you noticed.”
“I’ll always have a soft spot for you.” Lawrence grinned, seizing the chance to turn on the charm again. “I don’t want a day to go by without you on my mind or in my life.”
Jacob had developed a thick skin for this sort of thing. After five years of constant sweet talk, none of it fazed him anymore.
He took a drink, then wandered over to the living room. When Jessica wasn’t in sight, he called out, “Jessica?”
From inside her room, Jessica replied, “Yes?”
“I’m going downstairs. If anythinges up, just reach out to Lawrence.” Jacob lounged by Jessica’s door, his voice thick withziness. “He knows how everything works around here.”
“Alright,” Jessica answered.<fn8d74> Latest content published on find~novel</fn8d74>
A minuteter, Jacob made his exit.
Jessica waited until the soft thud of the closing door before slipping out into the hallway.
Catching sight of her, Lawrence’s face brightened with an easy smile. “Seriously, if you hadn’t stepped in, I doubt I’d even get past the entryway.”
Curiosity piqued, Jessica asked, “You mean, you’ve never actually stayed over before?” From her observation, Lawrence seemed quick on the uptake, which made it even stranger that Jacob hadn’t warmed up to him yet.

“I’ve crashed here before.” Leaning against the wall, Lawrence let out a small, helplessugh. “But I neversted longer than two days. Jacob always tossed me out. And when I was around, he pretended I didn’t exist.”
Jessica crossed the room, picked up a piece of fruit, and remarked, “That sounds pretty tough.”
“If you hadn’t staged that heartbreak scene, there’s no way Jacob would’ve let me stay,” Lawrence spoke with a quiet awareness, fully conscious of how little space he upied in Jacob’s world.
A gentle tone colored Jessica’s reply as she peeled her orange. “It wasn’t just an act…”
Lawrence was caught off guard. He went rigid. “Are you saying that really happened?”
With a slow nod, Jessica met his gaze. “The breakup was real. I didn’t have to make anything up.”
“Are you saying the person you had feelings for is the one Jacob mentioned earlier?” Lawrence eyed her with a bit of caution.
