?Chapter 1412:
Rnd’s mouth fell open. “What is this? You two plotting to leave me?”
Jessica gave him a look but stayed quiet.
Lena, on the other hand, didn’t hold back. “Our daughter’s clearly upset, and instead offorting her, you’re poking at her wounds. What kind of father does that?”
“I didfort her!” Rnd insisted.
Lena and Jessica both stared at him, unconvinced.
“I did!” Rnd doubled down. “She was all gloomy and sulking before. But after arguing with me, she’s just mad now. That’s an improvement!”
“Wow, yeah, great job,” Jessica said, rolling her eyes. She gave up trying to win this round.
Rnd puffed up proudly.
With the teasing out of the way, Lena gently nudged the topic back to serious matters. “So what’s really going on with you and Melvin?”
“It’splicated. Long story short, I like him. He likes me. But for some reason, he’s holding back and pushing me away.” Jessica couldn’t help but think about Jack’s n and whether or not it was actually working.
“Did you ask him why?” Lena asked.
“I did, but he didn’t say anything,” Jessica answered, fiddling with her phone. Her emotions were a storm. “Knowing how stubborn he is, asking again won’t change a thing.”
“What if that stunt with Jack doesn’t pan out?” Lena’s concern came through in her voice.<fn0f42> Th? link to the orig?n of this information r?sts ?n Find★Novel</fn0f42>
“Then I’ll wait,” Jessica said with quiet determination. “I’ll wait until he’s ready to marry me. And if that day neveres, then I’ll keep waiting anyway.”
Lena and Rnd exchanged nces, clearly uneasy.
“Can’t you just fall for someone else?” Lena asked softly.
“I would if I could,” Jessica said, her voice heavy. “But Melvin’s not like other people. He’s amazing. One of a kind.”

She thought of all the ways Melvin had looked out for her, how he always took on responsibilities that weren’t his to carry. Sometimes, she thought he was just being foolish. However, once she had fallen for him, there was no turning back.
“You do realize we won’t be around forever,” Lena said gently. Her worry was written all over her face. “What will you do once we’re gone?”
“Don’t say stuff like that!” Jessica cried, her voice rising. “And who says the n won’t work?”
But the worry hadn’t left her parents’ eyes.
“No matter what, he’ll end up with me,” Jessica said. “He’s already told me he hasn’t even considered marriage.”
“Just because he hasn’t thought about it doesn’t mean his family won’t push him into it,” Rnd said, his toneced with dread. “Give it two or three years—he’ll be forced into marrying someone.”
“He wouldn’t dare.”
