Chapter 1385

    ?Chapter 1385:

“Because you deserve to be happy.”

Melvin meant every word. He wasn’t someone who asked for much out of life. All he really wanted was for Freya and her family to be safe, to live in peace. And for Jessica—a girl so sincere and warm—he hoped she would find someone who truly made her happy.

“Before you start giving me life advice, maybe take a good look at yourself,” Jessica said in her usual breezy tone. “You’re over thirty and haven’t even dated once. If people found out, they’d think something’s seriously wrong with you.”

“I don’t care what they think,” Melvin replied, calm as always.

“Well, I care,” Jessica said without hesitation.

    He went still.

She continued naturally, her voice steady and sincere. “You’re a genuinely good person. I’d hate it if anyone said something awful about you.”

Melvin didn’t say anything. He didn’t know how to respond. But deep down, he quietly made a decision—he needed to find someone truly decent for her.

“Why’d you go quiet all of a sudden?” she asked, looking over at him.

“I was just thinking about who in Alerith might be a good match for you.”

Jessica stared at him, pletely speechless. This guy was unbelievable.

Melvin thought it through and finally asked, “What do you think about n Briggs or Trent Seymour? They’re both decent guys. Good families, solid character.”

“No way!” Jessica shut it down without a second thought.

    “Why not?” he asked.

“There’s just no spark,” she said, making up an excuse on the spot. “Didn’t you just tell me not to settle for someone just because of timing or pressure? I’m not in any rush.”

“Just meet them,” Melvin said simply. “As friends. It’s not like it’s a blind date or anything.”

“Not interested.”<fnbe6d> This content belongs to ?ovelFind</fnbe6d>

    “Fine.”

“I already like someone,” Jessica said tly.

Melvin looked surprised but didn’t dig into it. There were plenty of great men out there. “Who is it?”

“Gerard,” she said, keeping a straight face.

    Melvin blinked in shock.

At the red light, he turned toward her, his face filled with disbelief. “Gerard?”

“Yup!” Jessica confirmed, deliberately baiting him. “I was nning to tell him when I got back, but then he got married. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Melvin pressed his lips together, unsure how to respond. “Why didn’t you tell him earlier?”

“He didn’t see me like that,” Jessica answered easily. “If I’d said something, he would’ve bolted. We might not even be friends anymore.” She said it all so naturally, it was hard not to believe her.

Melvin tapped his fingers against the steering wheel. If Gerard hadn’t gotten married, he might’ve even helped Jessica go after him—but now, that wasn’t an option.
