?Chapter 1366:
Melvin’s brows knit together. He called Gerard immediately. Everything had seemed fine. Where did this blind date dramae from?
As soon as Gerard picked up, Melvin asked, “What did you mean by that?”
“She didn’t tell you?” Gerard sounded surprised. “She had a bad blind date experience.”
“No,” Melvin said, his lips tightening. She hadn’t shared anything about her life recently.
Gerard exined, “Her dad thought she was too old to be single, so he set her up on some blind dates after she got back. One guy was a spoiled rich man she didn’t like. He kept bothering her.”
“When was this?” Melvin asked, pletely unaware.
“About ten days ago,” Gerard said. “She mentioned he even showed up at her office a few days back.”
“I’ll keep her safe,” Melvin promised.
Gerard wanted to ask more, but Melvin hung up.
A hint of concern flickered in Melvin’s eyes. He could easily dig into her life, but since Jessica hadn’t shared, he felt it wasn’t right to pry without her trust.
After some thought, Melvin made a call to adjust his work schedule.
Once everything was settled, he headed to the kitchen to start dinner.
That evening, supper brought him and Jessica together at the dining table.
When the meal was finished, they settled onto the couch and turned their attention to a movie. As the credits rolled, he finally broke the silence.
“Jessica.”
“Has something been bothering youtely?”
“No.” Jessica gave a small shake of her head. A quick scan through her thoughts turned up nothing. Everything in her world felt peaceful and steady.
Thinking she might be keeping her worries hidden, Melvin leaned back and quietly reassured her. “Now, I’m your boyfriend. Whatever is on your mind, you can tell me. I’ll help you through it.”
The words caught Jessica off guard. She blinked in astonishment at him. Without hesitation, her hand shot out and pressed against his forehead. Maybe he had a fever and was talking nonsense?

Melvin furrowed his brow. “Why are you doing that?”
“Did something happen to you?” Jessica couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
“What made you say something like that all of a sudden?”
“I just want you to remember, you’re not alone.”
“So, does that mean I can count on you to help me hide the bodies?” she teased.
Melvin paused, caught off guard, and for a moment, words failed him. “That’s not what I was trying to say.”
A softugh threatened to escape, but Jessica looked away before she let it show. Moments like this made her think he was too adorable.
“If you ever need anything from me, just speak up,” Melvin said, still wearing that calm mask. “Seriously. I’m always here for you.”
