?Chapter 1362:
Relief washed over Jessica and she gave a small nod. Deep down, she understood he was doing this to help her, not because he cared for her romantically. That was fine by her. If they were faking now, maybe making it real one day wouldn’t be impossible.
Testing the waters, Jessica said, “Next month, I want you toe home with me to meet my parents. They’ve been worried since I moved out. If youe along, maybe it’ll give them some peace of mind.”
“Of course,” Melvin agreed without hesitation.
Jessica picked up her fork again and dove into her food, her mood lighter than it had been in a long time. If she had known Melvin would be this easygoing, she would have dragged him into this sooner, instead of waiting all that time abroad.
“Actually, there’s something else…” Melvin interrupted her thoughts.
With her cheeks full, Jessica nced up at him, her eyes shining.
Melvin gave her a gentle warning. “Just so you know, Anita International has a strict rule. Office romances are forbidden. If you want to keep our fake rtionship going, maybe think about transferring to Briggs Group.”
That caught Jessicapletely off guard. She realized she’d never even considered that possibility.
Melvin continued, wanting her to understand, “It’s been the rule for ages. Ellis Lambert resigned back then just so he could be with my boss.”
Jessica tried to test the waters. “Isn’t there any way to get rid of that rule?”
Melvin shook his head, not budging. “Absolutely not.”
Jessica’s appetite vanished right there. A job at Briggs Group meant seeing Melvin only after hours, which wasn’t nearly enough time to let any feelings grow.
After thinking for a moment, Jessica said, “Let me think about it.” She picked up her phone and waved him off. “You go ahead. I’ve got a call to make.”
Melvin shot her a quick look but decided not to pry. “Alright.”
Momentster, Jessica slipped out onto the balcony alone. After hesitating, she dialed a number she knew by heart.

When the line finally picked up, the voice on the other end was soft but distant. “Jessica.”
“Hey, Freya, it’s me—Jessica.” She scratched her head, feeling awkward. “Do you mind if I ask you something?”
“Sure. What’s up?”
“Is it true that office romances are forbidden in Anita International?”
Freya replied, “It used to be that way, but I’m not sure if the rule still stands. I’ll check with Melvin, since he’s the one in charge now.”
“Actually, he’s the one who mentioned the rule.” Jessica hesitated before continuing, her voice a little unsteady. “I just want to know—how strict is it? Is there any chance it could be changed?”
Freya fell quiet, the silence stretching out for a few seconds.
Theck of an answer made Jessica anxious. “Freya?”
A new note entered Freya’s voice, one of curiosity. “Do you have feelings for Melvin?”<fn5ea6> Get full chapters from </fn5ea6>
