?Chapter 1239:
“Then why do you look upset?” Nina leaned closer, her eyes full of concern.
Jesse came up with something on the spot. “I was just thinking about when Mommy’sing back.”
At those words, Nina’s smile faded, and she fell silent too.
n, watching them through the rearview mirror, quickly tried to lift the mood. “Hey now, don’t worry. She’ll be back before school starts—promise! And she’ll bring tons of gifts!”
Nina gave a little nod, humming softly in response.
When they got to the amusement park, n had his bodyguard take care of the tickets. Then he turned around to face the kids. “Alright, what do you want to do first?”
“Pirate ship!” Nina shouted without thinking.
“Perfect choice!” n said right away.
Nobody noticed the slight change in Jesse’s face when he heard that.
For just a second, his expression shifted. But then it was gone, like it had never been there.
“Come on, Jesse!” Nina called, skipping over to grab his hand. Her voice was sweet as sugar. “Let’s scream together when the ship swings up high, okay?”
“NO!” Jesse said without even pausing.
Nina blinked at him, clearly surprised. “Why not?”
“It’s childish,” he replied.
“But we are children,” she said, tilting her head.<fn29aa> Checktest chapters at find[f]ovel</fn29aa>
Jesse didn’t answer.
“I get it now!” Nina giggled. “You think staying quiet makes you look cooler, don’t you?”
Jesse decided not to respond.
n led them toward the very back row of the pirate ship. He had nned to rent out the ride just for them, but since the kids liked being around other people, he let them join the crowd.

The pirate ship began to swing back and forth, soaring through the air again and again.
Screams filled the air one after another as the ride rushed forward. But Jesse didn’t move. He sat there, unusually still, looking calm on the outside. The truth, though, was different. His body was stiff—so stiff that anyone who touched him would know right away. That calm facade? Just a mask.
When the ride came to a stop, Nina was over the moon.
“Let’s go again!” she shouted, practically bouncing with excitement. Her happiness was all over her face.
n smiled. “Sure,” he said.
He was just about to lead them back for another round when Jesse stayed behind and calmly said, “You two go. I’m good.”
Nina stopped in her tracks. “Then I’m not going either.” She would always rather stick with her brother. “Whatever you want to do, we’ll do it together,” she added with a small shrug.
