?Chapter 1165:
Already on edge, Alexis snapped, “Calm down! Speak clearly! What happened?”
The man, visibly shaken, reported, “Our stock price has crashed to rock bottom. Shareholders are dumping shares fast, and we’re on the edge of bankruptcy.”
Both Alexis and Katrina went pale, exchanging desperate looks like trapped animals with no escape.
“There’s an acquisition offer,” the subordinate added hesitantly after a pause.
“Who?” Katrina demanded, urgency sharp in her voice.
“It’s… Burke Group.”
Her expression softened slightly at the news. “That’s not terrible. If it’s Burke Group, maybe Yvonne will forgive us. They’re the most powerful in Amberfield. Being bought by them might be the best oue.”
Alexis sighed with relief. “You’re right—”
If Leif had overheard, he would haveughed at their cluelessness. Following Norton’s orders, he had alreadyunched the takeover of Horizon Entertainment. Once the deal closed, he reported back to Norton immediately. Norton, who stayed close to Yvonne to help her recover, monitored every move Horizon made. The wholepany was under his control.
After the acquisition, Norton’s firstmand to Leif was to gather proof of any illegal actsmitted by Alexis and Katrina. Yvonne’s pain couldn’t be ignored. Sure enough, the couple had crossed legal lines.
Norton’s lips curled into a cold, satisfied smile. Alexis and Katrina were fools. They had crossed the wrong person and now had to face the consequences. After reviewing the evidence Leif sent, Norton replied sharply, “Hire the bestwyers. Push for the harshest penalties.”
At first, Alexis and Katrina felt smug about theirpany being bought by Burke Group, but the moment Leif acted, they realized how serious things had be.
At Horizon Entertainment, Leif, backed by Norton’s team, quickly uncovered undeniable proof of the Gibson couple’s crimes. Still clinging to hope, Alexis and Katrina tried to charm Leif, but his cold, no-nonsense attitude only fueled their frustration.
Katrina snapped at him, “What’s the meaning of this? Is this how Burke Group treats their subsidiary?”
Leif raised an eyebrow. “Burke Group owns Horizon now. Your illegal acts break our policies. Naturally, you’ll face court.”

Her confidence shattered, panic filled her voice. “Please, have mercy! We’ll go to jail!”
Leif sneered, eyes icy. “Tell that to the judge. You showed no mercy to Mrs. Burke back then, remember?”
The couple exchanged stunned looks, finally realizing just how close Yvonne was to Norton. She wasn’t just anyone—she was his wife.
Katrina copsed, sobbing wildly. “I’ll beg Mrs. Burke for forgiveness! I swear I won’t cross her again. Please, spare us!”
Desperate, she shoved Alexis forward. “It’s all his fault! He made me do it! If not for him, we wouldn’t have offended her…”
Alexis snapped back, “I was only following your orders!”
Leif, tired of their finger-pointing, motioned to the bodyguards. They didn’t hesitate, dragging the two out forcefully.
Outside, Katrina clung to a faint hope. “If we go beg Mrs. Burke again and get her forgiveness, maybe we’ll be okay.” Determined, Katrina grabbed Alexis and rushed to the hospital.
