Chapter 1160

    ?Chapter 1160:

She was shoved aside as they continued their rampage, but she ignored the pain and tried to stop them again and again.

In her dream, she was weeping in panic, desperate for a way to make the intruders stop and leave her alone.

At that same moment, Norton had just arrived home.

Z met him at the door, mainly to express her worries about Yvonne’s odd behavior that day.

Norton listened patiently and nodded along. He said nothing, simply waving her off.

He bounded up the stairs, taking two at a time, and made a beeline for the master bedroom.

He opened the door, only to be greeted by suffocating darkness. Feeling his way to the nightstand, he turned on the bedsidemp and finally saw the tiny figure curled up under the nkets.

He let out a soft sigh and sat on the edge of the bed, pulling back the covers as gently as he could.

“Stop,” Yvonne muttered in her sleep, still hugging herself, still frowning. “Please don’t…”

Norton’s heart ached at her fragility. He pulled her into a tight embrace, hoping his arms could shield her from the ghosts of her past and everything that sought to harm her in the present.

He stroked her back in slow, rhythmic motions until Yvonne finally settled down. Her heart calmed at the familiar warmth that enveloped her. She blinked her eyes open, and when she saw Norton gazing down at her, she nuzzled closer against his chest.

Norton, on the other hand, gritted his teeth in frustration. Her usually radiant face was now pale and haggard, her bright eyes swimming with unshed tears. He tightened his arms around her, trying to offer some sense of security. Yvonne seemed to understand, because she tightened her own arms around him, though she still remained silent.

“It’s okay,” he murmured into her hair. “You’re okay. I’m here now.” He resumed stroking her back, applying more pressure with his fingers.

All of a sudden, she flinched and let out a sharp gasp.

He immediately released her. Something was not right.

    “You’re hurt?” he asked warily.

She shook her head. “It’s nothing.”

His expression turned even more grim. “Let me see,” he said, already reaching out to inspect her injury.

    “There really is no need—”

“Come on, let me check on you,” he repeated, his tone still gentle yet firm.

With a resigned sigh, Yvonne held up her arm to reveal the scrapes running down its length. “Just a few scratches.” She forced a smile on her dry, chapped lips.

“We’re going to the hospital,” Norton said decisively, scooping her up and lifting her from the bed.

“You don’t have to make such a fuss,” she protested softly.

He paused in his tracks and looked at her with a pained expression. “Just listen to me this time, okay? Let me take you to the hospital to make sure you’re okay.”
