?Chapter 1140:
Just a few paces back, Heidi could barely stand to watch. The moment Norton referred to Yvonne as his wife, it struck her like a bolt of lightning.
Yvonne—his wife? She was actually Norton’s wife.
Shelly had intentionally pushed her to go after Yvonne, knowing full well it would be her undoing.
And all those sweet promises to help her get her job back? Nothing but poisonced lies.
Fingers tightening around the broom handle, Heidi trembled with rage. Her eyes lit with fury as she hissed under her breath, “Shelly, you yed me like a fool.”
Her voice dripped with spite as she cast a nervous nce at Norton and Yvonne up ahead. Realizing the futility of her scheme to tail and sabotage Yvonne, she gave up and walked away.
She exited the mall and made her way back to her gloomy, cramped apartment. There, she broke downpletely—shrieking Shelly’s name in a fit of rage, spewing every vile curse she could think of as her emotions unraveled.
After a moment, her fury twisted into a dark smile. She picked up her phone and dialed Shelly.
“Shelly, thanks to you, I lost a steady job—and now the police are on my tail. If you want your secrets to stay buried, pay up. Ten million. That’s the price of my silence. Ten million—and I vanish from your life for good.”
“Ten million?” Shelly gasped on the other end. “Heidi, why not just rob a bank?”
Though rattled by Heidi’s sudden demands, she sensed something deeper beneath the threat. Trying to keep the situation from boiling over, she softened her voice. “Heidi, it’s not that I don’t want to give it to you—but things are tight on my end too.”
Heidi’sugh exploded through the line—unsettling and wild. When herughter died down, she added with a bitter edge, “Isn’t your man Norton Burke? Go cry to him for the money.”
The sneer in her voice was thick. All she wanted now was cash—enough to vanish into a new city, where no one knew her.
If Shelly really refused to pay up, then Heidi was ready to go down swinging—and she’d make sure Shelly burned with her.

Sitting alone in the dark, Heidi’s eyes glinted with twisted determination. Her mind raced, already crafting her next move.
Shelly hesitated for a moment before forcing a smile and replying, “Can’t you lower the amount a little? I really don’t have that kind of money.”
She paused, then added carefully, “Where are you right now? Why don’t youe meet me first?”
Heidi let out a cold, sharpugh. “Meet you? Are you seriously asking me that? You do know the police are out looking for me, right?”
“Oops… didn’t think that through,” Shelly answered quickly, her tone apologetic—even though her mind was working overtime. Of course she knew. That was exactly why she needed to know where Heidi was.
Heidi didn’t give her a chance to say more. “Five million. Not a penny less,” she snapped. “If the money’s not in my ount by the end of the week, I’ll blow everything wide open. Let’s see how long your precious careersts after that.” And just like that, the call ended.
Shelly stared at her phone in disbelief, seething. Unbelievable. Heidi had screwed up every task she was given, and now she had the nerve to turn around and ckmail her?
