"Enough. Stop passing the me." Rodney gritted his teeth. "When I went to rescue Sarah, Freya was the only person there, and Sarah was critically injured. Freya was caught red-handed with evidence. How could I have believed her?"
"What about after the incident?" Chester raised his eyebrows. "Did you calm down and think it through? Did you at least try to believe your wife a little? If only you put in some effort investigating it, you would''ve known that Freya left The Lodge in the morning. How could she have had the time to hurt Sarah? Or, if you had put in more effort, you would''ve found out that the kidnapper had no connection to Freya at all. However, you didn''t trust her and insisted it was her. Why should Freya exin things to you? She must''ve been so disappointed."
"Shut up. Shut up."
As if his tail had been stepped on, Rodney''s face paled. "Freya was not willing to exin things to me. I would''ve wavered if she had spoken even one sentence. She was the one who wanted to protect Eliza. She didn''t care about our family at all. It was you. You kept things from me for Eliza''s sake too." "Rodney, you''re wrong."
A mockingugh erupted from Chester''s throat. "I''m not a good person, so I dare to own up to the things I''ve done. What about you? You''re such a sc*m, yet you still want to make yourself look good. At this point, do you still think you weren''t in the wrong at all and that we were the ones at fault instead? Were we the ones who told you to hide Sarah? Did we make you climb into Sarah''s bed and get her pregnant?"
Chester scoffed. "If I were to get married one day, I''d tell the woman not to fall in love with me or expect that I''d be faithful. I''d definitely have mistresses, so she shouldn''t get married to me if she couldn''t take it. You, on the other hand, are different from me. You''re a sc*m, yet you lie to your wife, saying you''re a good man, that you won''t have an affair, and that you''ll only love her alone. However, you ended up with your exgirlfriend in the middle of the night rather than your wife and child.
"Never mind that you were with your ex-girlfriend, but you even hoped that your wife wouldn''t misunderstand. If she did, she''d be suspecting and doubting you. After that, you said you''d send Sarah overseas, but you were in her bed. Don''t say that you were under the influence of alcohol. A person loyal to their marriage will know how to maintain a distance from the opposite sex. But did you do that?"
Chester''s every word was spot on, and they cut into Rodney''s heart like an axe, tearing a hole that was bleeding profusely.
Rodney''s lips trembled. Even his hands were shaking. He felt as if theyer of shame he had been covering himself in had been yanked away mercilessly. Nevertheless, Chester did not let him off the hook. " Didn''t youe looking for me because you think I lied to you and was the cause of your and Freya''s divorce? You''re wrong. Even without Eliza''s incident, you two would''ve gotten a divorce anyway. At best, you wouldn''t have thought Freya was evil, and you would have refused to get a divorce. What would happen after that? After sending Sarah overseas, she''d call you out of the blue one day and say she has your baby. Would you tell her to abort the baby? No. You''d just have a mistress overseas and a legal wife at home. It''d be as if you have a wife and a concubine.
"If Freya wouldn''t agree to it, you''d exin that you didn''t get Sarah pregnant on purpose. You were drunk. Moreover, you''d say that Sarah was pitiful, that she had nothing left, that you couldn''t be with her, and that she only had a child with her. After that, would you disregard your child who''s overseas? One day, you''d bring Sarah and the child back. By then, you would torture Freya to death, yet you wouldn''t sense anything."
"Stop talking. Say no more."
Rodney could not continue listening anymore. He stepped backward, looking like he was about to break down. He was panicking, scared, and flustered.
"You''re not letting me speak because I''ve said what''s a
t the back of your mind."
Chester sneered. "Rodney, we''ve known each other since we were young. I know you better than anybody else. Do you know why Shaun and I have distanced ourselves from you? It''s not just because of Sarah. It''s because you don''t have the guts to admit what you did. You''re the good one, while the rest of us are the bad guys. Everyone thinks it''s pointless. Do you understand?" 1
Rodney opened his mouth in a struggle, and his heart wrenched painfully.
He was supposed to be there to give Chester a hard time. He had even prepared himself to fight Chester. However, he eventually lost his voice amid Chester''s aggressive words.
Chester was right. If Sarah still had the baby...
Things would have really gone the way Chester described.
