Sierra took a deep breath and carefully typed out a reply to Natalie''s message.
Sierra: "Ms. Walker, I''m sorry. I promise it won''t happen again."
Natalie: "Ms. Remington, don''t take the Walkers for fools."
Sierra put her phone away. She knew that whatever n she had with Sky was officially dead.
Since Natalie had personally warned her against it, she figured she''d better apologize to Sky and exin everything. Otherwise, she''d have two fires to put out-Samuel and the Walker family. That would be a disaster waiting to happen. She stood up and dialed Sky''s number. It didn''t take long for someone to pick up. "Hello? Who''s this?"
It wasn''t Sky who answered, but another man with a low and pleasant voice.
"Hi, this is Sierra Remington. Is this Sky''s phone?"
"Yeah. You''re looking for Sky? Hold on.
"Sky, someone''s looking for you."<fnd957> The source of th?s content is F?ndNovel</fnd957>
"Who is it?"
"Sierra Remington."
Sierra could hear the conversation clearly. It was probably Hector speaking. She had heard Lincoln''s voice before, and Natalie was still traveling with Mason and Timothy.
She soon heard Sky''s voice over the line. "Hey, Sierra."
Sierra immediately pulled her thoughts together.
"Mr. Walker, I called to apologize to you." She didn''t hesitate for a second. "I lied about some of the things I told you before. I was just trying to use you as a stepping stone to get into Lincoln''spany.
"And I also thought of using you to help me divorce Samuel. I''m sorry. I shouldn''t have lied to you or used you."
"Huh?" Sky sounded genuinely confused. "Sierra, what are you talking about?"
"Mr. Walker, I never called you by your first name when we were kids, and you never bullied me because of your sister. I made up some of that stuff."
Sierra knew that she had to bepletely honest and wanted to say everything at once to get it over with.
"I''m sorry, Mr. Walker. I shouldn''t have used you like that. It was wrong of me."
The line went quiet. Sky didn''t say a word.
"You can yell at me, hit me, get back at me, even. I won''t fight it," she added when the silence dragged on for too long. "I''m the one who lied and used you. Whatever you want to do in retaliation, I''ll ept it."
"Forget it," Sky finally said. "If that''s how it is, then I don''t need to feel guilty anymore. I don''t need to connect you with anyone or deal with your business anymore, right?"
"That''s right." She let out a long sigh. "Mr. Walker, I''m really sorry. It was my fault to begin with."
"It''s fine. I''m hanging up." And with that, Sky ended the call.
Sierra stared at the screen, listening to the empty dial tone. She wasn''t sure what emotion she was feeling exactly, only that she suddenly felt much lighter.
She had felt uneasy lying to and using Sky. She hadn''t really thought it through and never once considered how things looked from Samuel''s perspective.
But now, after what Samuel had said to her at the elevator, reality felt like a heavy hammer that mmed straight at her chest.
Those messages from Natalie opened her eyes to things she hadn''t considered too. She had underestimated everything and had been way too full of herself.
From Samuel''s point of view, he didn''t think he had done anything wrong. His wife had been hurt, and instead offorting or supporting her, he said he didn''t mind her. here misfortune while hot asking
divorce either. s
But it was impossible to act like it was all water under the bridge.
She knew Samuel was bothered about the situation. That said, she had also forgotten he was only human.
If it had happened to her, would she have reacted any better?
No, probably not.
In fact, Sierra had panicked and taken the wrong path. She should''ve never tried
to deceive or manipte Sky. She hadpletely misjudged the Walker family.
Sky had only agreed to see her because of his debt to Sophia.
He felt guilty toward Sophia, and by extension, treated Sierra, the Sinir family''s adopted daughter, with a bit more kindness.
Natalie was traveling but was well aware of everything happening in Dithoria State. The rest of the Walker family must have known as well.
Lincoln''sments in his office that day were a warning. She just didn''t realize it because Sky had been protecting her at the time.
Now that she understood everything, she grabbed her phone, slung her bag over her shoulder, and left the house.
Inside, Melissa was still trying tofort Samantha, who was crying in frustration on the couch.
"If I''d had the ability back then, do you think I would''ve sent them away? After I sent him off, I was constantly sending money, doing everything I could to make life better for them abroad. I endured
humiliation and bullying from Ivan and Julia just to send over what I could. s
"The one I owe the most is Sophia. How could he say that to me? How could he talk to me like that?"
"You''ve been through so much. Don''t cry. Don''t take Samuel''s words to heart," Melissa said gently. "You know how it is—he and Cee were abroad for years. They never really got to be around their parents.
"He doesn''t understand the struggles you went through. Sophia is doing well now,
and you''re doing better too. As for Cee, I''m sure she''ll get the divorce.
"It''s just Samuel standing in the way.
If ites down to it, we can ask Marcus and Natalie for help. Back when on helped save Laura he owed us a favor. If we ask him for help, he''ll repay that debt without question." s
"He''s already repaid it, hasn''t he?" Jonathan walked over and looked at Melissa with disapproval. "Marcus helped us find our biological daughter. That alone is a massive favor.
"You can''t just keep leeching off him! You have to be grateful. Besides, Marcus isn''t an idiot. He''s not going to keep owing us forever."
Melissa fell silent after Jonathan''s rebuke.
"And the Walkers aren''t fools either," Jonathan added after a pause. "Cee, I didn''t ask at the time when Samuel said those things earlier, but did you really meet with
Sky?"
Sierra nodded. "Yes. Everything Samuel said is true. It was my fault, and I made a mistake. I shouldn''t have underestimated the Walkers.
"I''m going to see Samuel now."
Jonathan quickly stepped forward. "Cee, let me go with you. I''m worried
something might happen."
"Dad, I''m not a kid anymore. And Samuel isn''t some horrible monster. Let me handle this myself."
She turned him down gently. "There are things I need to say to him alone."
