?Chapter 1392:
Without thinking, Eileen blurted out, “That’s your new stepmom.”
Gabri’s head snapped up, her mouth hanging open in shock. “What?”
Her face practically screamed: What on earth had happened while I was away? She had only gone to see Le and Ste earlier, and now, she had a stepmom?
Eileen chuckled at her daughter’s expression. “I don’t know who this is, either. We’ll ask your dad when he gets home. What if your dad doesn’t want me anymore?”
“We’ll take him on!” Gabri shouted, raising her little fist like a warrior.
Eileenughed, shaking her head. “Even if we teamed up, do you really think we could win against him?”
Gabri scrunched up her face in concentration, deep in thought, before suddenly blurting out, “Sneak attack!”
Eileen smiled. “A sneak attack, huh?”
Then, Gabri grabbed her mom by the hand, dragging her toward the stairs. She snatched Le’s favorite back scratcher on the way and dashed upstairs, pulling Eileen along.
She shoved Eileen behind the door and pressed a finger to her lips. “Shh!” Then, she handed over the back scratcher like it was a sacred weapon. “Here, this is your weapon!”
She darted around the room, found a clothes hanger, and crouched beside her mother, clutching it like a sword.
The room fell silent, except for the sound of Gabri’s muffled giggles of excitement. Eileen nced down at her, seeing her tiny frame shaking with barely containedughter.

Eileen finally understood what Gabri had meant by a “sneak attack.” It meant catching Bryanpletely off guard when he stepped through the door with their makeshift weapons in hand.
“Where did you learn about this?” Eileen asked Gabri, intrigued. “You’re so clever, Gabri—”
“Shh!” Gabri hushed Eileen and giggled quietly. But suddenly, her expression turned serious, and she silently urged Eileen to be quiet.
Eileen was momentarily at a loss for words. Judging by the time, Bryan should be home soon.
The seriousness with which Gabri listened for any signs from outside started to make Eileen anxious as well. Her hands, hanging by her sides, began to sweat. Before long, a car horn sounded outside, making Gabri squeal with excitement.
She then signaled to Eileen and whispered, “Sneak attack!” Eileen covered Gabri’s mouth. Through the slightly open door, they could hear familiar footsteps approaching, growing louder as they neared. Suddenly, the door shifted slightly.
Eileen’s heart raced. She watched as Gabri gripped the coat rack, crouched down, and prepared to spring into action.
As Bryan stepped inside, he immediately sensed something amiss. With furrowed brows, he cautiously took a couple of steps forward, only to be ambushed by two figures lurking behind the door.
Gabritched onto Bryan’s leg. Although she had grabbed the coat rack as her weapon, she had abandoned it and instead jumped up and down excitedly on her bare feet.
