Chapter 740:
“Miss Welch, if you’re finished, I’ll start working. If I don’t finish the task, you can punish me. But no personal attacks, please,” Eileen said, grabbing a chair and starting to go through the documents. These files were easy for her, but with so much to do, she couldn’t finish the task in one day.
At noon, she skipped lunch with Bryan and asked him to pick her up after eight in the evening. Bryan didn’t reply to her texts. She figured he was displeased. She nned to work from home, hoping to avoid getting punished.
Upstairs, hearing Eileen’s reply to Savanna, Conroy felt frustrated.
“Kinsey, how does she know so much?” Kinsey asked, confused.
Conroy paused for a moment, then said, “She’s from Onnd. Maybe she thinks our workce is full of traps. She could just be bluffing. But she’s been bold enough to speak out, so we can’t go after her directly now. We need to find a way to make her mess up at work, and then we can fire her for that.”
This meant he needed to find another chance, and Eileen could stick around at VQ Group for a bit longer.
The thought made Conroy’s head throb. He looked at Kinsey and said, “Why don’t you take a few days off and head home? Have your mother figure out how to make Eileen go back.”
“Alright, I’ll go back and ask my mom about this after work,” Kinsey replied.
After hesitating for a while, he added, “Oh, and Jessica ising back tonight.”
Conroy’s frown deepened.
“Tell her not toe to the office.”
???? ??????? ?? ?????????.???
“I can’t reach her at the moment. She might be on the ne already. I don’t know her flight details. I’ve sent her a message telling her not toe.” Kinsey pulled out his phone again and sent a voice message.
“Then keep an eye on where she is. If she doesn’t see the message, stop her at the entrance and tell her to wait for me at home,” Conroy sipped some water, trying to soothe himself, but the knot of emotions in his chest wouldn’t go away.
By three in the afternoon, Eileen had finished about a quarter of the work. Her arm sore from the writing, so she decided to take a quick walk to stretch and ease the ache. As she stood up, everyone in the executive department turned to look at her.
She stood there, stunned, her eyes locked on them.
Eventually, a young woman, about twenty, hurried over and whispered, “Come with me.” She then led Eileen down the hall to the break room, where a name tag on the young woman’s chest read “Lenny Freeman, an intern.”
Lenny continued, “I’ve only been here a week, and Miss Welch is already making my life difficult. I’m too scared to speak up.”
“Why were the others looking at me like that?” Eileen asked, still feeling uneasy about the stares.
Lenny chuckled. “They might not say it, but they’re all impressed. I bet they’re scared you’ll march into the manager’s office and give Miss Welch a piece of your mind!”
Eileen was speechless. She suddenly wondered if Raymond had felt the same pressure when she and Bryan tasked him with too much work.
