    “I don’t need your advice! Just leave me alone!” With that, Judie shoved Denise out of the room and mmed the door shut.


    Judie and Denise’s visit didn’t seem to affect Eileen much, but it made Bryan sense something was amiss. Seizing the opportunity while Ruby went upstairs to check on Gabri, Bryan slipped into the kitchen after Eileen.


    “Are you keeping something from me?” Bryan asked.


    Eileen, preparing breakfast without turning to face him, replied, “Mr. Dawson, you do have a sharp mind. Why don’t you take a guess at what I’m hiding?” she teased.


    She boiled some eggs, then leaned against the counter and nced at him.


    Bryan leaned against the kitchen cab, his elbows propped up on the edge, his fingers rxed and hanging down. His deep-set eyes narrowed slightly. After a brief pause, he replied, “It’s difficult to read your thoughts, Ms. Curtis. I concede.”


    Eileen, finding his reaction amusing, walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist. “I’m not Denise’s biological daughter. We are not rted.”


    This revtion had never crossed Bryan’s mind. He pressed his thin lips together, furrowed his brow, and gazed at her, hesitant to speak.


    Eileen said, “This may not be ideal, but it’s not entirely negative. At least it will prevent Denise from leveraging her ‘mother’ status to exploit me.”


    Although Denise hadn’t been overtly exploitative, she had nheless created considerable problems.


    “So, you don’t intend to make this public?” Bryan asked, his hands resting on her waist as he looked down at her.


    Eileen shook her head. “No. Regardless of whether Roderick and I are biologically rted, we maintain a good rtionship. There’s no need to create unnecessary problems between us.”

    After a moment, Bryan let out a soft sigh and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “You still have Gabri and me.” He positioned himself behind Gabri, his expression one of support.


    Eileen’s heart sank slightly, but she mustered a smile. “Yes, I have both of you.”


    Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the ringing of Bryan’s phone. Bryan ced a hand on her waist, pulled out his phone, and answered the call. It was Josue on the line.


    “The drug test results are in,” Josue said. “It’s definitely the antidote, but there’s an unknownponent that experts can’t identify. We’re unsure of its potential effects.”


    Josue swore under his breath, feeling that Christos had outsmarted them.


    The kitchen was quiet, and Eileen overheard what Josue had said. Her eyes flickered with a brief glimmer of hope before fading again. She looked at Bryan, frowning.


    “Make sure the experts are prepared to give me a full body check. When everything’s ready, I’ll take the antidote,” Bryan said decisively.


    Eileen suddenly grabbed his wrist. The veins in Bryan’s hand stood out as he held her wrist in return. After finishing his call, he ended it and said to Eileen, “I can’t wait any longer.”
