    “The little one is a light sleeper. Any noise might wake her. You shouldn’t go in. Just look through the window,” the doctor said.


    Peering through the ward window, they saw the baby cradled peacefully in Ruby’s arms, asleep.


    Even so, the baby’s little hands asionally twitched, and she made soft groaning sounds.


    Ruby stood and soothed her by gently patting her shoulder.


    “Doctor, how is she? Should we arrange a thorough check-up for her?” Eileen asked, her gaze locked on Gabri.


    The doctor responded patiently, “We’ve alreadypleted a full check-up. She’s just shaken up; there are no physical traumas or internal injuries…”


    After providing the exnation, the doctor departed. Eileen stood outside the room, gazing through the ss at Gabri.


    Bryan silently observed Eileen’s profile.


    Tears welled up in her eyes. He couldn’t tell what she was thinking, but she didn’t look away for a long while.


    “Want to go in and see her?” Bryan thought that maybe holding Gabri would bring Eileen some peace.


    But Eileen quickly waved him off, tears streaming down her face as she shook her head. She quickly wiped her tears away and said, “She has just managed to fall asleep. Let’s not disturb her. I just needed to see that she’s safe.”


    “She is safe, just like I promised,” Bryan assured her, leaning against the wall beside her. “You’re just like her, scared and needing rest. I’ll take you back.”


    Eileen nodded and returned to her ward, allowing Bryan to help her into bed. Then, they had dinner Bryan had brought in.

    Bryan ate with unusual calmness, asionally urging Eileen to eat before the food got cold.


    He also ate withrge mouthfuls, as if he was very hungry.


    “Gabri is very important to me,” Eileen suddenly said, setting down her utensils. “But so are you. You left without considering… If anything were to happen to either of you, have you thought about what I would do?”


    “I’ve never considered that,” Bryan replied quickly and directly. “All I know is that you are my life.”


    Eileen opened her mouth to say more, but Bryan interjected, “Eat now, or it’ll get cold. We’re safe now, aren’t we?”


    He was unusually calm. Eileen, her mind a whirl of emotions, didn’t ponder too deeply.


    Eileen found it hard to fall asleep that night, having rested too much during the day. Bryan patiently stayed by her side, showing her videos and photos of Gabri on his phone.


    At three in the morning, Eileen finally drifted off to sleep.
