?Chapter 535:
Bryan stayed silent, staring intently at Ruby on the screen.
She was walking down the mountain slowly due to her age, clutching Gabri tightly.
Half an hourter, a team of uniformed officers appeared. When they saw the man with Ruby and the child, they raised their weapons.
“Mr. Dawson, let’s get started.” Coen handed a disposable syringe to Bryan. “Once you inject it, the gun aimed at your daughter will target the gunman’s heart. Your daughter will be safe.”
It was clear that if Bryan didn’t follow through, Gabri would remain in danger.
Bryan’s eyelids drooped as he took the syringe, opened the package, and drew the white liquid from the vial.
Drops formed on the needle tip, and in their reflection, Bryan saw shes of Eileen’s smiles.
He then looked at Gabri on the screen and inserted the needle into his vein, slowly injecting the fluid…
The strong smell of disinfectant constantly hit Eileen, taking her back to when Ruby was very ill years ago.
The feeling of helplessness and the pain in her heart overwhelmed her.
The pain in her dreams made sweat bead on her forehead.
Her hands gripped the white sheets tightly as she cried out, “Bryan!”
She suddenly jolted upright, waking from her dream, but the heartache stayed with her.

Though momentarily confused, she slowly remembered what had happened. Was she in a hospital?
Had Bryan knocked her out and gone up the mountain by himself?
Eileen quickly tossed the covers aside and ran barefoot out of the room.
“Why aren’t you wearing any shoes?” Bryan asked, opening the door while holding dinner. He frowned when he saw Eileen’s distressed state and stepped forward.
“Where is Gabri?” Eileen backed away, creating some distance between them. “Why didn’t you let me go up the mountain? Did you manage to save Gabri? Where is she?”
Bryan ced the dinner on the table and gently pulled the nearly hysterical Eileen into his arms. “Gabri is safe. She’s in pediatrics, a bit shaken, but Ruby is with her.”
“I need to see her.” Eileen pushed him away and moved toward the door.
Bryan grabbed her wrist and made her sit on the bed. “Eileen, calm down. If you keep this up, in the future, you—”
He suddenly fell silent.
He then knelt to help put her shoes on. “You’ll scare Gabri. Put your shoes on, and I’ll take you to her, alright?”
His tone was gentle.
