Chapter 521

    ?Chapter 521:

Z wasn’t being harsh for no reason. The truth was, her bank ount was dwindling—there were barely four digits left. Apex Group had been on the verge of copse before, and any money that hade in had gone straight tounching projects or plugging the hole of unpaid sries for the rest of the staff.

Lydia had convinced Z to be the general manager, promising they were all “in this together.” But Z hadn’t seen a single dime beyond pocket change.

Zunched into a tirade, her tone both arrogant and aggressive. Even when she was wrong, she put on a haughty front, appearing as if she were someone not to be messed with.

The manager frowned, clearly frustrated. “Fine, we’ll cover the medication today, but that’s it. We’re not paying for his hospital stay or any further treatment for his foot.”

“Who said he needs to be hospitalized?” Z scoffed, crossing her arms. “It’s just a scratch! Once the fever breaks, he can take some medicine and go home to recover.”

She even considered buying some iodine and gauze from the pharmacy, along with a few fever pills—barely costing a few dozen dors.

“But somedy already checked him in,” the manager exined, assuming Eileen had already spoken to Z and updated her on Milford’s condition. “She said she was a friend and wanted him to stay overnight for observation.”

Z’s eyes narrowed. “Who arranged his hospital stay?”

Eileen emerged from the ER, her arm throbbing in pain. It wasn’t broken, just a nasty sprain, but it hurt nheless. Smoothing out her rumpled sleeve, Eileen said, “I got him admitted. Don’t worry; I’ll handle the bill.”

The manager’s expression softened, his eyes practically sparkling as he looked at Eileen more kindly than before. Unconsciously, his gaze towards Z shifted to one of exasperation.

“Thanks for being so understanding, ma’am. Since Milford passed out on the job, I’ll talk to the boss and get today’s bill covered,” the manager said.

“You can talk about that with Milfordter,” Eileen replied, dismissing the manager with a nod. “You can go back to your post. We’ve got this.”

“Alright then, I’ll leave now,” the manager said, bowing slightly before walking off.

Outside the ER, a few worried individuals paced restlessly, waiting for news of their loved ones. Z and Eileen stood among the anxious crowd.

Their conversation, though heated, did not go unnoticed. Those around them overheard snippets of their exchange. But, caught in their own worries, the others barely paid attention to Z and Eileen’s argument. They gave them a quick nce before returning their focus to the ER doors, their faces lined with concern.

Z, unable to hold back any longer, snapped, “What’s your problem, Eileen? Are you unting your money now? Who do you think you are, paying for Milford’s hospital bills? I’m his sister, you hear me? And you—acting like a saint with your charity…”
