Looking out of the window I watch as Cas bids the group off to the Moon Ceremony. Thanks to The
Elders and now Dean’s fast arrival, me and Cas decided it was best to send Rowan with some Pack
members to at least give Everfur a presence for the first time in years.
“Alright, let’s try this again.” I murmur to Dean as I sit down in the rocking chair that appeared this
morning. I think Cas was sick of seeing me try to getfortable in the bed, I will admit it’s much
easier to feed Dean in the rocking chair.
‘You mean try and feed.‘ Ghost taunts me, for some reason ever since Dean was born she’s been
really snarky and a little mean to me.
‘I’m trying.‘ I tell her as I pull my bra down and expose my nipple to Dean’s squealing mouth, as normal
he tries totch on but he just can’t seem to get the idea.
‘Animals in the wild do this, can you just feed him already.‘ Sighing I drop my head back as Dean
continues to scream his little lungs out. He fed that first time but now we are two days in and he has not
eaten a thing. I can’t help but feel like I’m failing him in some way.
“No one ever taught me how to do this alright. I’ve just been given a pup and basically been expected
to know what to do, I don’t understand why he isn’t feeding.” I feel the warm tears start to slide. down
my face as the frustration bes too much and I can’t contain my emotions any longer. It’s like a
dam breaks and finally the river has overflown and there is no stopping it.
“Luna?” I sniffle and look up to see Sally pushing her way into the bedroom with a warm smile on her
face. “Oh Eva.” Sally drops whatever she’s holding onto the bed and rushes over to me in the rocking
chair.
“He wont eat!” I wail, “he just screams and screams, he hates me!” Sally crouches down in front of us
and puts a wrinkled hand on my knee, it’s aforting gesture and one I find myself needing.
“Eva? Angel, what’s wrong?” I tuck my face into my chest as Cases barrelling into the bedroom, I
don’t want him to see me breaking down about our son.
“Alpha, with all due respect, please leave and give me some time with Eva.” I’ve never heard Sally talk
to Cas like that before and what’s even more shocking is Cas actually nods his head and leaves the
bedroom.
“You just kicked your Alpha out of his own room.” I sniffle as I giggle a little, Dean still continues to
scream his little lungs out.
“Well, Alpha or not he’s still a man and right now you need some help.” I watch as she crouches down
next to me and starts to stroke at Dean’s full head of ck hair, “babies are really good at sensing our
moods. If you are tired and stressed, he will be too, it will make him not want to feed. So, pass him here
and I’ll get him settled while you go and shower and then you can try again.” Reluctantly I hand Dean
over and stand from the rocking chair.
“Are you sure?” I ask her as Dean continues to scream, his tiny hands. are clenched in rage and his
face is bright red.
“I’m certain, once you have finished showering you can try again and if it still doesn’t work then I have
brought a bottle up so he gets a little something in his tummy.” I’m swamped with guilt as I walk away
from a crying Dean and shushing Sally, I leave them alone in the bedroom

to head into the adjoining bathroom.
This bathroom is much bigger than the one in the basement, there is actually a bath in this one, it has
little jets on it that I can’t wait to try out. The shower is massive with little water jets that st you from
the sides, I haven’t really had time to enjoy either of them but I will one day. Very aware that Dean is
still screaming the Pack house down I quickly strip out of my sleep wear and step into the shower.
Looking down at my body I notice the c–section scar is now just a red line, Selena said it takes humans
weeks to be able to even walk after but thanks to Ghost I am able to be up and about just over forty–
eight hours. afterwards.
‘You realise you just left your new–born with a random Pack member.‘ I roll my eyes at Ghost as she
continues to attack me about my failings as a mother.
“What’s your problem?” I ask her as I rinse the shampoo from my hair.
‘I’m exhausted, all the pup does is cry day and night. You realise when. I’m not chatting to you I’m
normally sleeping.‘ I nod my head in understanding, me and Cas haven’t exactly had a lot of sleep
either, Ghost’s attacks actually make more sense now.
‘Lets try this again.” I tell her as I turn off the water and ring the excess from my hair, stepping from the
shower I wrap myself in one of the bath towels hanging from the door.
“You need to try and eat something little one, your momma and papa need sleep so they can look after
you properly.” Sally is speaking quietly to Dean as he continues to wail in her arms, she’s walking back.

so why bother. Walking over to the rocking chair I sit down and hold my hands out for Dean, his little
face is scrunched up, his little face is bright red and he’s making so much noise it actually assaults my
ears.
“Alright, nice rxing breath and then bring him to the nipple.” I nod my head at Sally as I bring my
chest down to Dean, he continues to wail as his little lips smack against my nipple. It’s almost like he’s
searching for it but can’t quite figure out it’s right there in front of him.
“Come on Dean, it’s right there.” I tell him softly, I can feel Ghost willing me to just shove my breast into
his mouth but even I know that’s not the right move. “It’s not working.” I tell Sally as I feel the tears start
to boil to the surface again, “it’s me, he doesn’t want me.” Sally kneels down in front of me and starts to
run a gentle finger down the side of Dean’s face.
“It’s not you, every mother goes through something like this. Books and movies set unrealistic
standards and most babies struggle at first. Once he gets going he won’t stop but if you really are
struggling I have some form.” I shake my head as I try to bring my nipple to him again, he again
continues to wail and scream.
“All the books say ‘breast is best‘. Even Selena said it.” I hup as I start to cry again, “I need to do
this, he needs this from me.” Sally puts a hand on my arm making me look up at her.
“It’s only the best if both mother and baby can get on board with it. Form doesn’t mean you have
failed, it just means he will finally have a full belly and maybe even sleep.” Sally’s eyes hold mine as I
slowly nod my head. I really wanted to do this whole breastfeeding thing but honestly I don’t know how
much longer I can do this. I’m bing overwhelmed and I know Dean must be starving and if Sally is
right then he is éxperiencing all of my stress and anxiety too.

“What do I do?” I ask as Sally walks over to the bed and plucks up the bottle of form she popped
onto it when she first came in.
“It’s already at the right temperature, after you have slept I’ll show you how to make it up.” I ept the
bottle of white liquid from her and adjust myself so I’m fully covered, “now just hold him and bring the
teat to his lips.” I nod my head as I do just that, Dean continues to scream but as soon as a small drop
of liquid falls onto his lips hetches onto the nipple shaped teat and starts suckling like his life.

“He’s doing it!” I say with joy, Sally beams at us as I give a deep sigh and lean back in the rocking chair,

“Don’t mention it, every new momma gets overwhelmed at some point. I helped with Cas and multiple
Pack pups so if you have any questions. you just ask.” I grip her hand in mine and look into her eyes as
we both listen to the peace and quiet of Dean finally eating.
