?Chapter 1249:
Unspoken thoughts hung between them, a silent ord seemingly reached.
Dani exhaled sharply, her lips a tight line, then turned away, leaving without a word.
Puzzled, Cedric sought rity from Joyce, who lingered nearby. “Has she consented then?”
Joyce, well-versed in Dani’splexities, pondered. Dani, who had coldly left her own father in a psychiatric facility, might seem heartless.
To Joyce, Cedric’s humble request was unlikely to make much of an impression.
Yet the hopeful glimmer in Cedric’s eyes tugged at her.
Life had shown Joyce its share of cruelty and deception; understanding human nature was as elusive as grasping the wind.
Still, Cedric’s hearty open and honest in his dealings with Dani—a stark contrast to the murky waters of human intentions.
Cedric’s life had be intertwined with Dani’s, much like the moon orbits the Earth.
Now, as Dani prepared to leave, she had no intention of taking Cedric with her. The thought lingered in Joyce’s mind—if Dani truly departed, Cedric’s world might be as bleak as a starless night sky.
She looked at Cedric and gave a tentative nod. “Maybe she’ll change her mind. You never know—you might just be the exception.”
Cedric’s expression was filled with doubt. He pursed his lips, his voice soft and uncertain as he wondered aloud, “Could I possibly be her exception this time?”
Later that day, after finishing work, Kohen sought out Dani, visibly upset. “Why not choose me?”
Dani met his gaze with calm serenity. “Youck the necessary acumen. How can I rely on someone who can’t even make a decent proposal?”

Kohen’s gaze faltered.
Dani cut him off, her voice steady and clear. “You’re burdened by family responsibilities; you had children early. Your thoughts are more scattered than most. I need a partner who is neither naive nor preupied. Do you understand?”
Dani was always blunt, and today her mood was far from bright. She had no patience for softening her words.
“So you’re tantly aligning yourself with Charles?” Kohen demanded, irritation creeping into his tone as he found Dani’s confidence overbearing.
“Why not?” Dani replied with sereneposure. “I have the credentials. Show me you can match the elite—the world’s wealthiest—and perhaps then you’ll earn the right to bargain with me.”
Kohen clenched his jaw, pride wounded. Each of Dani’s words hit hard, infuriating yet undeniable.
“You… anything Charles can offer, I can match it!”
A softugh escaped Dani. “Really? I’m skeptical.”
Kohen narrowed his eyes, defiance flickering within. “If I say I can, then believe me—I can!”
Acknowledging his resolve with a nod, Dani casually reached into a drawer, pulled out a fruit knife, and flung it onto the table.
