?Chapter 1693:
Car took a steadying breath, herposure returning. “I’d like to be alone. Please leave.”
Elwood made no move to leave.
Car met his gaze. “You won’t leave? Fine, I will!”
With that, she reached to yank the IV needle from her hand. rmed, Elwood lunged forward, grabbing her wrist. “Stop!”
“Don’t touch me!” Car’s voice cracked like a whip as she shoved Elwood’s hand off her.
Elwood recoiled, palms raised in surrender. “Fine, I will not touch you. Just calm down, alright?” His voice softened.
“Leave.” After calming down, Car once again asked him to leave.
Elwood’s gaze lingered on her for a while. His jaw tightened, and after a moment, he rose from the chair. “Alright, I am leaving,” he said.
With that, he pressed his lips into a thin line and strode toward the door.
Only when the door clicked shut behind him did Car’s rigid shoulders rx. She felt as if all the strength had been drained from her body, leaving her slumped against the back of the chair.
Her eyes fluttered closed, and she felt like her heart was being pierced by a thousand needles. The feeling was unbearable.
Outside the room, Elwood paused in the sterile corridor, drawing a shaky breath. His chest felt heavy. He hadn’t recovered any memory, but seeing Car like that had made him feel uneasy.
After a moment, he steadied himself and moved toward the elevator, his thumb pressing the button for another floor.
He did not leave the hospital. Instead, his feet carried him to the Cardiac Surgery Department. Confusion swirled in his mind as he stepped out of the elevator, his brow furrowing. He couldn’t even understand why he hade here.
Yet a quiet urge tugged at him, a need to unburden the weight pressing on his soul. He thought of Belinda, who had felt like family to him since their very first meeting.

Belinda’s eyes widened slightly in surprise when she saw Elwood.
“Mr. Wright? Why are you here? Is something wrong with Barbara’s health?” Belinda’s voice carried concern.
Elwood shook his head quickly, offering a reassuring smile. “No, Barbara is fine. I came to see you for… personal reasons.”<fn006a> Th? link to the orig?n of this information r?sts ?n find?novel</fn006a>
He hesitated for a moment, rubbing the back of his neck. “Belinda, do you have time for lunch? Could we grab something to eat together?”
Shock flickered across Belinda’s face, her brows lifting. She had not expected such an invitation, but a warm smile soon curved her lips. “Sure. I need to wrap up a few things here, though. Tell me where, and I will meet you after my shift.”
“Alright,” Elwood replied.
