Chapter 1692

    ?Chapter 1692:

As Elwood drew near, Car’s demeanor shifted, herplexion growing faintly ashen in the hospital room.

Elwood approached Car, paused in front of her, and then turned to Kylee. “Ms. Wright, may I… speak with your mother alone for a moment?”

Kylee feigned astonishment, her eyes widening. She flicked her gaze toward Elwood before turning it to Car, her toneced with curiosity. “Mr. Wright, are you and my mother… acquainted?”

“Indeed, we are,” Elwood replied with a straightforward nod.

Kylee tried to gauge Car’s reaction. “Mom, should I…”

Car’s lips pressed into a thin line. After a brief pause, she inhaled deeply and met Kylee’s eyes. “You can step out for a while.”

“Alright,” Kylee responded, plying with her mother’s request. She quickly exited the room.

In an instant, the spacious hospital ward held only Car and Elwood. Car averted her eyes, staring off to the side, refusing to meet Elwood’s gaze or acknowledge his presence.

Undeterred, Elwood calmly settled into the chair beside her bed. “Car, we used to know each other, right?” he said with quiet conviction.

At his words, Car’s face betrayed a flicker of change, her eyes darting to him in a mix of confusion and disbelief. What did he mean by that?

    Noticing her reaction, Elwood exined, “Here’s the thing. More than two decades ago, I was in a car crash. I suffered a head injury that caused amnesia. There’s a lot from the past I don’t remember.”<fn870e> ?? ??? ???? ?? ???? ???? ???????s, ????s? ??s?? F?nd-Novel</fn870e>

Car’s expression shifted yet again at this revtion. She hadn’t known Elwood had lost his memory! Did this mean he had no recollection of her—or of the moments they had shared?

The thought struck her, and Car grappled with a rush of conflicting emotions. She found the situationughable.

He had erased every trace of their shared past, no longer recognizing her, while she had spent years foolishly holding onto memories of him. Despite the storm raging within, Car remained calm on the surface.

“I don’t know you,” she said tly.

Elwood fixed his gaze on her, each word deliberate. “I’m certain we knew each other before. Why else would your name trigger a sharp pain in my head, or why would seeing your picture—or meeting you now—stir my emotions? We used to be in love, didn’t we?”

The word love ignited something in Car. She whipped her head toward him, her voice rising with sudden fury. “I told you, I don’t know you! Don’t you understand that?”

Elwood remained silent, his unyielding stare locked on her.
